What bridge would you choose? Schaller? Hipshot? Gotoh?

I'm having a bass built and I need some advice concerning bridge choice.
I need to choose between the Schaller five string bridge with roller
saddles, the hipshot bridge as used by Carvin, and the Gotoh 5 string bass
bridge. Any help or opinions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Joe.

In article <l_rb6.6563$J9.21...@ratbert.tds.net>,

The Schallers on my two custom built 5 strings have served me well,
easy to adjust and well-made -- but I've not tried any of the others
you mention for comparisons.

Well Mr. Fist,

I have used various bridge replacements and although I'm a freak for
American made goods I have settled on a Gotoh for my Jazz.
It's heavy but not overdone and the saddle grooves are deep and stable. The
chrome finish has remained untarnished for 14 years.
NASA has developed a moonstone based bridge that I hear is very nice. The
overtones are epic. It might be cost prohibitive at 700,000.00

Maybe just stick with the Goto

I've got Schaller bridges on my Guild Pilot (stock) and an Alvarez Dana Bass
that replaced the crappy stock bridge with. Makes a nice difference and you
can adjust for string spacing.

Hi:

I highly recommend the Gotoh 206. The thing I especially like about this
one is that it is adjustable is all direction (string spacing and
height) and everything totally locks down. Your settings will NOT shift.
Check out Warmoth, they have 'em.

How about ETS (german brand) ? The TUNING FORK they make is one of the
finest pieces of hardware available for bass. This one should go for $120 -
lot of bucks, but still worth.

Hmm... Mr. Fist. I kinda like that salutation in sort of a wierd way.
Nobody asks me why I chose ironfist as my handle, so sometimes I forget that
it might seem strange to some people.

Joe.

The carvin Hipshot I have is steel i think (if I remember correctly), the A
style is the better brass one? or better heavier one right?

I suppose that if you called yourself "MolybdenumDigits" instead, people
might think you were odd...

Go on then - why did you choose ironfist as a handle?
--
Graeme White,

PS -Schaller bridges are excellent - my only gripes are that if the G string
saddle gets too low, the saddle can lift & snap back down when you pull the
string hard. You can also get into trouble when changing strings quickly as
dragging the string over the roller saddle when removing it can spin it off
to one side or another, leading to some interesting string spacing
issues...it's very easy to set up, however.

Go for Gotoh, IMHO.
Very adjustable; good sustain and tones.

Yes, you're right. I have a chrome plated one on one of my basses. It's
nice and heavey and the strings load from the top. It also has string
spacing adjustments. A lot of high end manufactures are putting them on
their basses.

Hi Dirk,
