I made the move to a new computer and it took forever to get everything
up and running again. This new sucker is crazy fast so hopefully I won't
have to go through the moving process again for a long time. Nothing like
waking up in the middle of the night (morning) thinking "Did I remember to
transfer ALL my recording files over?"
I played a wedding gig out in the 95 degree heat all afternoon and threw
away my last shred of self respect by taking a bunch of really ugly sub gigs
but otherwise there's nothing new on the gig front.
Tonight was the first showing of the documentary I am in called "On The
Spectrum" I hadn't seen it yet so I had no idea how it would look. They
booked it at one of the oldest theaters in town in the largest room and I
walked in, looked at the 420 seats, and thought "There's no way we'll fill
this place." A bunch of my musician friends came out along with just about
everyone I know from the autism community and by the time it started every
seat was full and there were actually people standing in the back.
There's a little bass stuff in my segment and a solo looping performance
on the DVD extra, my arrangement of a Bruce Springsteen song played as an
instrumental jazz tune on the guitar. After the film I got up with the
filmmaker and another adult from the film and we answered questions
together. After they kicked us out of the room I spent a long time in the
lobby answering questions and talking with people, I even got asked about
doing some music for a documentary!
The film is very positive and mixes the struggles of people who have AS
with the successes and includes a wide variety of opinions and suggestions.
I really enjoyed speaking after the showing and I may start looking for more
opportunities to get up and speak or even talk with specialists and
teachers. There aren't a ton of gigs or students these days so maybe it's
time to go take a different approach.
The film is for sale at
http://www.onthespectrummovie.com/ if anyone is
interested.
So how's AGB been in the last week or two? Did you guys finally decide
if a P bass is better than a J, or if you can hit a home run easier with a
graphite over ash?
