Finally found a thread on the tdpri list. Still looking.

Also found in several discussions that using an ozone generator works
well. I found that auto restorers remove mildew with ozone generators
too large for our uses but good reference.

Get out there and cook!
Seems to me like something got wet.
Use the amp often and get it warm/hot.
That should dry it out and remove the smell.

I've never used Oust (spray can, available in the grocery store) on an
amp, but it worked pretty well on a car we stupidly left parked for
weeks and weeks in the Texas heat and changing weather. (Not a total
cure but btw, still a minor miracle, it was really really bad)
I'd suggest maybe giving the amp a careful but thorough spray while it
sits in a plastic 40-gal trash bag, and then tying the bag up for
several hours or overnight. Oust isn't just perfume, you don't want to
breathe it (especially if you are a bacteria-based alien lifeform
living here in disguise to prepare for The Invasion).
Take the bag outside if it isn't already outside after the "soak" and
let the amp air out. Repeat if needed.
Exposure to strong sunlight won't hurt anything, either, within
limits, of course.

Also worked great when I was gone all day and came back home to find I
really should have taken the garbage out of the kitchen trash can that
morning on the way out the door, and the odor had spread through the
whole house. Sprayed the rooms, left for awhile, aired the place out
on return and on with non-stinky life. Good stuff.

The smell was just on the outside of the amp. I cleaned off the
outside 309 and Windex, and the smell is completely gone. Good luck
for me.
