so you can hook up to the house Leslie and get real Leslie sound
(nothing else works). You don't want to haul one around you want to
use one that's there, usually for the Hammond. You need a plug and go
no mod needed fix.

But I'm hard-pressed to come up with a gig that
has a house Hammond/Leslie anyway... perhaps
that's more common in the jazzer realm, but us
normal folks never see that kind of hardware
sitting around a bar... and *especially* that we
can just plug into without getting in trouble!

Depends on the area. If you are on tour, it's a lot easier to get the
promoter to bring a Leslie than carry your own.
The commercial combo preamps work, but you don't gat a great electric
guitar sound out of them. You need to have a ready to go amped sound
to feed into the Leslie, because the onboard Leslie amp is actually
not that great. It's a crappy amp. And a lot of rental Leslies have
solid state replacement amps.
If I were going to have my own Leslie, I'd use a repro roadworthy cab
and my own amps and either a crossover in the Leslie or both raw
drivers out and biamp. You can get the repro roadworthy cab, but then
you need all the motors, rotors and everything else AND you don't want
the piece of shit new ones HS sells, the foam lower rotor, the stepper
motors. The concept of the latter was good, the execution sucked. BUT,
here's the thing, you do not want to haul anything this big and heavy.
The trend is you carry your guitar, amp head and boxes or pedalboard,
drummer carries sticks and cymbals and a snare, keys uses what they
got, bass carries his bass. That's all. Promoter supplied backline.
Rider specifies what's needed and you Chuck Berry if he f's up.

As far as Leslies go as long as you specify "122, 145, 147 or as
required for stock B-3" you have a pretty simple setup. I think 11 pin
is for the later Mercotac piece of shit sets, or altered boxes, but as
Trek II proves you can have a universal interface.

older "home organs" - like farfisas etc. had "real Leslies" inside. You
hav to build a cab around it nevertheless...
I bet lots of them ended on the junkyard...

Yes, there were OEM Leslie modules for console mounting. Nt.wth.sht.
That's why they are junked.
