here is a list of diatonic modes and exotic scales complied from various sources including:

Jazz Styles: History and Analysis (third Edition): Marc Gridley

various music dictionaries

the modes of each scale are listed in mode order with the altered intervals.  Many of the scales/modes listed have more than one name.   Ethnic origins are often reflected in the names (Kurd, Romanian, etc.)   Additions to this list are always welcome.

Major Scale Modes:

1) Major Scale (Ionian): no alternation
2) Dorian: flat 3,flat 7
3) Phrygian (Kurd, Arabic):flat 2, flat 3, flat 6, flat 7
4) Lydian: sharp 4
5) Mixolydian: flat 7
6) Aeolian (Natural Minor, Ancient Minor, Pure Minor): flat 3, flat 6, flat 7

Just for clarification in the preceding post in this thread: All the
scales listed are being based on the major scale. The scale derived is
the major scale with the alterations described for each mode.
