The "Online" world can a strangely wonderful place at times. But, like the
real world, one must be always on their toes, and keep an open eye for some
hidden - and often unpleasant surprises. As well as containing a wealth of
informative, educational material, it's also the breeding grounds for many
of life's shadier elements, ranging from life's simple malcontents with an
axe to grind, to the criminal minds of hackers, sexual deviates, and those
wishing to cause some form of harm to the lives or property of others.

Several regular posters of the Usenet group, alt.guitar.amps, have
experienced numerous physical threats from such an individual over the
course of the past year, an individual who makes little or no attempt to
hide his identity. This person is Stanley Fritz Johnson, the would-be CEO
of a company that never quite got a start, Fritztronics, Inc. Lately, it's
been reported by at least two online businesses, NEBS Electronics and
Roccaforte Amps, that Fritz Johnson has made several threatening phone calls
to them as well as e-mail of the same nature.

Exactly one month ago, to the day, a small coalition of AGA
(alt.guitar.amps) posters was gathered together to protest the (apparently)
intoxicated, vulgar and damaging posts Mr. Johnson has become known for.
When presenting the evidence to Google.com, Google found the content
offensive enough to purge a great deal of the slanderous vulgarity Fritz
Johnson posted under the name stanl...@msn.com and, as they put it, "put
the account on hold". Mr. Johnson has also posted under the name
Vo...@aol.com.

The latest threat appeared, again, to myself. It appeared like a shot in
the dark on the guestbook of my home page, with the following text;

There appears to be no logic or reason behind any of Mr. Johnson's many
continuing posts. It's well known that Mr. Johnson has long suffered from
some serious personal problems. More than a couple of victims of his online
attacks and personal threats - including myself - have expressed serious
concern regarding the stability of Fritz Johnson, and have vowed to use
"whatever force is necessary to protect myself and my family".

It's unclear what goes on in the mind of any "Internet stalker" - or, for
that matter, anyone with Mr. Johnson's medical and psychological history.
It's my strong belief, in light of his documented history, that anyone who
has *any* form of contact with this person, whether in person or online,
should be prepared to defend themselves against any form of unpredictable
attack Fritz Johnson may happen to make. This would most certainly include
"whatever force is necessary". It would also be advisable to notify your
local authorities of the possibility of a random attack by Fritz Johnson -
and have your lawyer at close at hand. The man is highly unstable and
should be considered dangerous. I'll be making my own preparations for my
own defense, as well as reports to the proper authorities.

Oh great, instead of letting Fritz vent on AGA, you propose censorship on

The guy may post insanity, but some of it was hilarious. Not as creepy as

Kent, et al:

Sorry to hear that the Fritz saga has come to this. While nothing I have *ever*
posted approaches what I read from Mr. Johnson, I have contributed to some of
the "shenanigans" here at AGA. So, offering a mea culpa of my own, I would like
to officially make an apology to Lord Valve, and anyone else who may have been
offended by some of my posts. Something that he said struck a chord~ that being
intolerant of intolerance is, well... intolerant, and is... hypocrisy. Or
something to that effect. Anyway, from this point on, I am forgoing personal
flames. Hopefully, others will follow suit.

If, by censorship you mean Google purging his psychotic drunken threads,
it's been done already. Don't believe it? Do a search. It was Google's
judgement call, nobody elses. Apparently they felt his words were best
deleted forever rather than archived forever. There are limits to what one
can get away with in this world, even online.

You might think so, but insanity doesn't amuse me in the least. It's not a
game when the insane lose sight of reality, and it's certainly no laughing
matter to anyone *other than* the insane. To each their own, but leave me
out of it. I prefer the company of healthy minds. (Don't I have something
to do?)

Hello Kent,
I'm totally serious when I suggest to you that you pray for your
enemies. Say a prayer to that which you regard as Holy and sacred, and ask
that this person who is acting out of balance be held in the highest good,
and that their hearts be made open to love, compassion, self-respect and
tolerance. Turn the situation over to a higher spiritual authority and ask
that this person be made whole and healed. In your prayer, offer this
person forgiveness for wrongs done to you by them, and in turn ask in prayer
for their forgiveness for wrongs that you may have, intentionally or
unintentionally, caused or done to them. See this person as someone who is
deciding as we speak to return to harmony and good.
I'll virtually guarantee to you that this prayer will not cause hair to
grow on parts of your body that you don't wish to have hair growing on, nor
will it cause you to play unharmonious notes during the heat of the guitar
solo. You don't have to shave your head and sell flowers down by the
airport. It's all about the concept of "thought directing energy."
Seeing your opponents or enemies in this light doesn't mean that we lay
down and let ourselves be run over. It means that you are giving them every
benefit of the doubt and encouraging them to seek wholeness and to walk away
from the tussle. A martial artist can envision their opponent in this light
but the martial artist can also block, kick, punch and do what they need to,
to protect themselves and to help restore harmony. The mental focus sets
you up in a good space so that your actions are from a higher place.
I like the Sufi saying: "Trust in God but tie your camel." Do what you
have to, Kent. Take care and keep your chin up; enjoy your gift of playing
guitar. Thanks for your friendship.
Walk in Beauty, Peace. Scott

I believe that NH has a law similar to NC, in that an
electronically communicated threat, though it originated outside the
state, is considered to have been committed IN the state, due to the
message being stored on or received by a PC there. I think the legal
term is "to have nexus", generally used to indicate residency for
taxes, but in this case indicating that the event "occurred" in the
state itself.

Bottom line, there's likely some real teeth at your disposal.
You seem like a prudent guy, Kent. Mind your details on this one.

BTW, it occurs to me that if you find out more about the guy's history and character *now*, it could come in handy later. Such
information, normally inadmissable in court, might be allowed if *you* know about it before (and therefore during) any subsequent

Just a thought. I'm not a lawyer; I just watch them on TV. ;)

Um, if he gets past the dog and locks, ignores the
lights, and the pepper spray and baseball bat don't
deter him, I vote for not screwing around with rock
salt. In fact, I'd be thinking of buck shot to slow
him down, followed by a slug, at that point.

Hmmm. If you load the shell with this

I can see where just dumping it down the

Just way more risk than anyone needs. Loading shells requires an
investment in equipment, and more than a little study, too (improper
pressure curves can destroy a gun, injuring or killing the shooter).

Use pheasant loads. Fairly heavy weight of shot, will still be
in a heavy clump at close range (large hole), shot is large enough to
penetrate some as individual pellets, and it doesn't kick TOO hard,
allowing accurate shooting without burning, blinding and deafening
everyone in the room.

Plus, it's a widely available hunting load, with virtually no
legal repercussions if used in self defense. Many LEO agencies these
days are not using the high power 00 buck loads anymore - a lot of
them have gone to the #1 or #4 buck in reduced power "tactical" loads,
for the same reason I like the bird loads.
