Has anybody used this combination? If you want to believe multiple
references on the web, it is "Santana's favorite speaker."

I'm very aware of the JBL orange frame D-120F, but it looks like this
setup was also an option from Fender. Does anybody have an idea of how
common/rare this option was? How about a price sheet from 1969???

The speakers came in my second non-working Twin project. Everything
dates to 1969 with AB763 circuit. Including tail on the logo, aluminum
frame around the grill cloth, pots and transformers all to 69. This one
shows some common road rash, but the grill is intact, although a bit
frayed and thin in a spot.

It's only been a couple of months since I finished my 1973 conversion to
AB763 with Oxford 12T speakers. This one *should* be quicker.

I backed the cab up to my '73 rebuild, basically to verify the Altecs
were sound. I switched to standby and alternated speakers a couple of
times. The Altecs sound a bit more efficient, with both more bottom and
more highs. ...which I guess makes sense with the big AlNiCo magnets,
3" V.C., and cloth accordion surround.

I have never built an amp for the purpose of reselling it, but when I'm
done with Twin #2, one of these will have to go. I can't justify
letting my hobby/addiction go to multiple amps of the same type!
However, after seeing the seller's collection, I'm not feeling
compulsive at all. He has lots of NICE stuff, including black face,
brown, a nice old Concert, an early blonde Twin, plus a couple of stage
racks full of various guitars... way more stuff than I have.

I bought a '65 Twin reverb around 1975 or so...still have it. It came
with Altec 417s in it. They were definitely not stock (they were 16
ohm). They sounded very good. clear & bright. Later I swapped them out
for a pair of JBL E120s- Cleaner, brighter. I really fell in love with
the twin when I put in a pair of old brown back jensens in it. After I
blew them up (took a few years) I replaced them with Pyles. The Pyles
are, to my ear, the best sounding guitar speakers I have ever used in
any Fender amp. ('71 Deluxe Reverb, '66 Pro Reverb).ymmv .
