Vintage Fender Princeton speaker help

I'll need one..I'll probably go with a Jensen P8R as a replacment to the
once stock (I'm guessing) Jensen P8T. My question, if anyone can advise is,
will I need a 4 ohm or 8 ohm speaker for this really cool, near mint old
amp?
Specs:
4-1/2 Watts
12AX7 Preamp
6V6GT Single ended power
5Y3GT Rectifier
I've googled the hell out of this without success. Any suggestions would be
appreciated.

FWIW, I've heard the new issue Jensen's are not like the originals. Recoton
purchased and hijacked the name. I'm not saying they are bad speakers, but
neither are they what people might expect.
If you want something more faithful to the original, try www.tedweber.com
and look at the 8F100. Call Ted and *talk* to him. Maybe he can sell you
stuff that's not on the "menu".

Another excellent choice is the Eminence Legend series of speakers.
I have personal experience with them and they are really nice and
retain all of the vintage sounds. The Eminence Legends are Made In USA and
the direct replacement for your older Princeton would be the
Legend 875. Of course if you take out the baffle board and replace
with a 10 inch baffle board you could go with Legend 102 or 105 and
then look out! Your little Princeton will become a mighty mite indeed!
Great tones for sure. (all the Legends are based on the original speaker
designs - in the case of your Princeton is would be the older Oxfords
that originally came in there).

Given that it's a 4 ohm speaker, there aren't too many choices out
there. A Weber 8A125 or 8A100 would SOUND great in this amp, but it
probably won't fit unless you get a new cabinet. His AlNiCo Signature
8S would be a great 2nd choice based on tone alone, but since it fits,
it automatically gets a promotion to your first choice. At $35, it's
also a good deal cheaper than the 8Ax series.

I think that's a very good call. The narrow panel Champ of the same era
used a 4 ohm speaker according to the FFG. That would be the 5F1, 3 tubes
12AX7, 6V6GT, 5Y3. I think the OP must have a 5F2 or 5F2A.

The Weber 8A125 is lots deeper than what came originally with your amp.
Ted says that it won't fit in Tweed or early BF Champs. I know the
Princeton has a bigger cabinet than the Champ, but the picture in the
Fender Field Guide (www.ampwares.com/ffg) shows the magnet of the
speaker coming very close to the output tube.
Send an email to Ted, he'll probably know.

Wow! Thanks for the heads up there. We got 2 of those
maybe a few years ago and they sound great. I had no idea
they are now discontinued. That's a shame.

Not a problem. Ted Weber e-mailed me and solved the problem. He's certain
it's an 8 ohm replacement and says his 10A125 would sound really nice in it.
Maybe this is the ticket!

It's 4ohm, I just measured mine. Looks just like the one on FFG.

*10*A125? Maybe Ted was thinking of a BF Princeton, not a Tweed.
BTW, I used to have a 76 Princeton Reverb with a 10A125, and it did
indeed sound VERY nice! Unfortunately it won't work in your amp.

You know..you're right. I figured this out *after* I made the post...He was
probably thinking of the BF and not mine, not to mention the 10" flavor he
suggested. What the heck, the search continues...at least we've got the ohm
issue resolved. Probably go for the 8S. Thanks again!
