I'm targeting to buy a small (5-25 watt) amp that employ 6V6 power tubes.
Can anybody give their opinions on these or other 6V6-powered amps:

- Fender Champ (which version?)
- Kendrick Champ-clone
- Victoria Champ-clone
- Fender Deluxe Reverb
- Supro (orig Valco or Jester version)

My vote is the Deluxe Reverb.

You have both single-ended and push-pull amps listed. They do sound
different, so figuring out which you like will cut your list in half.

Also keep in mind that the Champ-like amps put out a lot less volume than
the push-pull units.

There are *lots* of old 6V6 amps out there, don't limit yourself to Fender
or Supro. harmony, Dan Electro, Alamo, lots more. My best sounding amp is
a Harmony push-pull 6V6.

MY favorites are: '62 Brown Tolex Fender Deluxe, It really screams; '58 Tweed
Deluxe, also a screamer: '58 tweed Vibroluxe beutiful clean sound and vibrato,
screams whan fully cranked with distortion pedal; AND I have an old Valco with
some black metal preamp tubes, very funky but sounds AMAZING.

Deluxe Reverb. Princeton Reverb as a close second.

Don't forget the Tone King Imperial and Continental amps. The Imperial uses
2 6V6's and the Continental uses 4 6V6's. Beautiful DR style amps. Wayne

Thanks for all yer replies, and pointing out considerations on push/pull.
Forgot to considre that.

I've since expanded my nominee list, although some of those mentioned go
beyond my means. My budget ceiling is $700 (I'm a farmer, is why! :-). What
could that kind of "change" get me in the 6V6-category? I would imagine it
would eliminate high-wattage choices, thus being limited to 1 or 2 tubes.

I'm really leaning towards the Jester-version of the Supro, but I'm wary that
it will sound too much like the Oahu I already have at home. It's circuit is
similar to a Jester-repro Oahu but w/ 6V6 duets instead of EL84s.

Further .02 are much appreciated. Thanks.

How about a early SF Deluxe Reverb?

There are no "high-wattage" 6V6 amps.

You should be able to come in well under that, I'd think. I picked up my
Alamo Montclair Reverb (2 6V6s, 1 12AX7, reverb and tremelo, 12" speaker)
for $125. Deals are definitely out there. Definitely consider speaker
size as an important component of tone.

Best of luck,
Maurice

As an additional FYI, there's an Alamo Montclair Reverb on Ebay right
now. (No affiliation with the seller; I'm just a happy Montclair owner.)
If you're interested, it's going for fairly low right now, ending in about
a day and a half.
