I've seen numerous posts about this, without any concrete information
on how Steve Jones of the Sex Pistols got his guitar sound(ex: amp
settings, string gauge, extra effects boxes in the chain, etc).
Anyone out there that might be able to pass that along? TIA.

Fender Twin (silverface), all dials on 10, and a Les Paul.
If you claim that you stole your guitar from T-Rex (I think that is what he
claims) and that your amp was stolen from Bob Marley, you might come closer.
Maybe, Maybe not.

If he got one of Marc Bolan's guitars then he had a very good start.
Marc is more famous as a songwriter and performer than as a guitarist,
but he could play and knew how to pick 'em.

Hello

Here is some bits of an answer :

1973 LP Custom formerly owned by Sylvain Sylvain from the New York Dolls.

1975 Fender Twin Reverb with two GAUSS speakers.
And layers and layers and layers of guitar and feedback pretty far a the
final mix !!

No effects at all, no boosts, no overdrive ! ! ! That's what I call an
"Organic Tone" !!!

Have you got the "Electric Warrior Sessions" yet? The booklet has
photo's of Marc with all the juiciest vintage guitars you'd ever want.
Real Pauls, custom-color Strats, maple-topped Esquires. Great stuff.

havent seen it. i got sort of boggled by the amount of stuff i saw, reissues
and whatnot, and decided to just stick with what i had. is it a reissue, or
an outtakes thing?

im a big daniel ash fan, or i suppose just a big late70searly80s
post-punk-goth-art whatever fan, and i remember the first time i heard the
slider all the way thru, i sat up and said, "well, thats where everything
ive ever listened to came from" :-)

i really enjoy "a beard of stars" as well.

Mostly outtakes and alternate cuts. It's all mixed very simply, which
(IMO) makes it far better than Tony Visconti's overcooked production.

And he took rockabilly tunes and turned the changes around. A lot of
deranged Roy Orbison in there.

live he also used a firebird, at least on the 78 US tour

the 96 tour he played that old white custom and a blue sparkle
standard through a pair of 4x12s .. no amp heads were visible

I have DVDs of Dallas, Frisco (78) and Tokyo (96) pro shot if
interested in DVDR copies
