Roland GC-408

I just purchased the new Roland GC-408X guitar amp. I was originally going to
get the BluesCube BC-60, a great-sounding amp BTW, but this amp uses the same
TubeLogic technology and promises more of the Marshall stack-type sound I was
looking for.

It is an 80 watt two-channel combo amp with 4x8" closed back speaker cabinet.
I got it with the additional 4x8 cabinet for a total of 8 speakers.

I have not had it very long yet, but this amp is incredible for a $525 solid-
state amp. It really packs a punch. My other amp is a Mesa Boogie Mark I
Reissue, and that certainly is a great tube amp. But, I've got to say that it
may be gathering dust for awhile, because I am totally getting off on the
sounds I am getting from the Roland.

I will post a review in Harmony Central once I've played it a little longer.
I wanted to post this because I've seen almost NOTHING posted or advertised
about this amp except from Roland's web site at www.rolandus.com. It was very
hard to get one ordered through my local music store. Has anyone else bought
or played this amp? I'm curious what you think.

I am very, very impressed with this TubeLogic technology. It is not a perfect
emulation of tubes, my Mark I sounds smoother and there is a slight trace of
solid-state buzziness, but it is close enough that the price and reliability
difference may make up for it.

I have had one of these for som years now. I occationally use it on gigs. Had a problem case the speakers broke (one fuctioning, tree not). Bought new more heavey speakers and wired them 2 series and 2x2 paralell (insted of original 1 series plus 3 series paralelled (strange!)). Much better sound after that. I have also the bottom cabinet with 4 extra 8'' speakers both in flights with wheeels. I have occasonally used footswich for chanal switch in fornt of stage. But I have not the original for this so no lights indi. Works great if you learn to play with the sound it gives. I play blues, and its great on small venues. On greater venues I use a fender or an old Line6(2x12) flextone. Its amasing how little info its on this rare amp. On rolands wikipedi its not listed. I am very happy to have this amp. I wont ever sell it.
