Deluxe Reverb static noise problem

I have a silver face deluxe reverb and I just had it serviced.
The guy fixed the reverb and tremolo, added a mid boost, replaced some tubes
and did a cap job.
The probelm is that it makes a static noise at random time, it sounds like a
dirty pot being turned.
I can't re-create it on demand but, if I just leave it on, eventually it
will make the noise, even without a guitar plugged in.When I hit put it on
stand by and then back on the noise goes away.

Any ideas what this might be?

This amp sat, unplayed, for about 8 years so I am not sure if it was doing
this before I had it serviced.

The rectifier tube, a 5U4GB was not replaced.

Maybe the standby switch? All of the B+ goes through that one... sitting can
let dirt get into the darndest places.

It could be damn near anything, tube sockets, bad connection, bad solder
joint, bad tube, contaminated fiberboard...

Why and how did the guy add a "mid-boost"? I'd look at that. I smell a
possible hack here. DRs are one of the amps that should not be modded
much at all.

Actually *don't* *need* to be moded. If you are lacking mid's in a DR look
at the speaker. Put a celestion Green back 30 in a DR and you will be hockin
like the best vintage marshall

Could be among many other things. I had both switches replaced on mine
because they were arcing.

In my mind "bad connection" includes arcing switch contacts.

My Vote is for the high value plate resistors causing noise , although i
wouldn't describe it as static.

True. My comment was included to show not to overlook old switches as a
potential problem.

Good point. I wasn't being real specific there, was I?
:)
It's just that there are SO MANY possible causes for that problem, it's one
of the most annoying and difficult to troubleshoot. I spent YEARS looking
for it in my DR.

Try cleaning the preamp tube pins - 12AX7, 12AT7. These suckers cause static
popping if they are dirty.
I use a scotchbrite pad to clean the "blue" off old NOS tube pins
Also a shot of cleaner to the preamp sockets would help. Ask LV for the
right one to use for High temp though.
This has been the cause of popping in my amps more than once......make sure
the octal sockets are nice and tight as well.
I use a small jeweler screwdriver to carefully bend the metal contacts back
"in" on the socket, and a pipecleaner to to clean these. Cleaning all the
tube sockets/pins removes a LOT of noise if they are fairly dirty (my amp
was 30 years old)

The plate load resistors in the preamp circuit can go noisy and act just as you
described.
They are 100k, brown, black yellow.
