Anyone have any experience with after-market speakers for an early-90's
Fender Blues Deluxe?

I'm looking for something that has a good, organic blues tone when the
amp is used without pedals, but won't flap out when a Tube Screamer is
added to the mix.

I had one of these amps before, with a Naylor SD50. It seemed to lack
some definition.

Anyone tried a Blues Deluxe with one of the new Jensesn C12s? How
about a Celestion V-30? I've also got an old Jensen P12Q laying around
from a 50's Deluxe.

BTW, the original, stock, Fender-spec'd Eminence was cool sounding at
living room volumes, but terrible at stage levels.

Thanks.

I've got a Celestion Vintage 30 in my Hot Rod Deluxe, and I love it. The
biggest problem I have with it is that it really distorts when I run my
baritone through it with the Bass knob above 5. Other than that, it rocks!

Try Joe Naylor's Reverend Alltone 1250 speaker. It's sounds similar to a
vintage Jensen C12N but with a bigger magnet and voice coil so you get better
bass, even mids, and beautiful chimey highs. I have one in my old Seymour
Duncan combo amp and it's the best speaker I've ever heard in that amp. I've
been through Celestion,JBL,Eminence, and EVs. $59 at reverenddirect.com you'll
love it.

How does the V30 do on the more organic-blues tones? I've got a few in other
amps, so I might swap and give it a shot, thanks Rick.

Any idea how the Naylor Alltone 1250 compares, sonically, to the Naylor Special
Design 50 from the early 90s? The SD50 was billed as a C12N-like replacement.
Maybe it was the tubes in the amp, or maybe that amp just wasn't quite "it", but
it was fairly unimpressive.

I use active EMG pickups in both of my guitars, so my impression may not be
very reliable. In the clean channel, it is very clear and bright with lots
of punch. However, in the drive channel it has a tone of overdrive. I tend
to keep the Drive knob around 2 to keep it clear.

Not sure how the Alltone 1250 compares with the old Naylor 50 but guys that
have used both prefer the new one.

Well shit, Rick. With your active pickups vs. my old-school single coils, you
leave me with no clear and concise direction here. I guess I'll just slap a V30
n and see how it does. Good thing I have a few laying around, eh?

And if the V30 doesn't get it, I may have to try the Naylor.

OTOH, If it's real close to the Jensen C12Q, I might also consider one of the
new ones. Anyone used one of the new Jensens in anything?
