Thats what I thought to on my classic20.....but as I was hitting the
note that made the noise I touched a pencil to each tube clip and I
found the one/ones that were making the noise...so I removed them
all...the tubes seat pretty firmly so I doulbt any will fall out and
never did.....

I haven't replaced any tubes yet. Defective preamps tubes are possibley noisy,
low gain or microphonic. This problem is none of these. It's a mechanical
vibration, like when you play loud and various objects vibrate on the shelves
in your house. The big difference is this problem occurs at bedroom volume and
above, not just high volume. It's quite annoying.
When the Classic 30 was first being purchased in some volume about 2 years ago,
there were dozens of postings in the guitar groups but virtually all were
complaints, not solutions. The problem would appear to be quite common.

Still sounds like a microphonic pre-amp tube picking up the amps vibration. I
would definately try substituting these before anything else.

Mine rattles too, but I don't have all the tube retainers in it. If you
can find some O-rings the right size, you can try sliding one partway down
the tube to keep the tube and retainer from rattling against each other.
yeah, its a hassle, and defeats part of the idea of having a combo in the first place,
but disconnect the internal speaker and run an external cab-this is also the fix for
the ampeg reissues-they sound great, circuit-wise, but the crappy construction spoils
it-but not when you do it this way...
that would be my guess too... I tried out a classic 30 at a local shop
and it had a rattling noise... tapping on each of the tubes revealed one
that made way too much noise... swaped that with one from another
display and the sound went away...
