Oh, that's an easy one. The reason it isn't is because your sentence
"The distortion is heavier and better sounding then a tube amp." That
sort of aces it right there Flame. You need a little more time under
your belt before you can identify an amp as being the best ever made.

Nope. Hasn't help me, not one iota. I don't think your Bassman and my
Marshall together would be good enough. Why . . . even The Beatles with
their Voxes had to finally admit that . . that . . . well, you remember

Versatility is going to be a key thing to a company that makes the best

Oh_my_Lord, that's gonna spark off that there English company to produce the
Marshman, and God only knows what else. Then we're all gonna have to spend

No, see those guys are losers. I'm just breaking it down to you guys so you
won't waste your money on crap like marshall and fender. 300 watts, clean and
distortion channel, nine band EQ. The four twelve cabinet has vintage 30's, a
grill clothe, and a wicker grill protecting it. And for you guys that don't
know, Scott Ian and Paul Crook play them. See I was at a club kicking it with
my friends watching a band play. After the show I asked him what amp he was
playing, when he showed me the Cyclone. I plugged in, and knew it was the best.
I then sold my Mesaboogie and got what is now the tenth wonder of the world. Go
play one, and then tell me what you think. I think you might be scared you'll
like it.
Maybe he got brown acid at one of the Woodstock Reissues. There has to

It's gotta be 300 watts, cuz with any less it'd be crushed by a 50 watt Plexi.

Right, like poor ol' Jeff Beck who played in town last night. I didn't go,
but my friend who did reported that the entire stage was filled with
Marshall amps! Wouldn't surprise me none if it was those piece o' crap JCM

If that's true, it would have to have been reissued brown acid . . . or

I doubt that. I don't like Randall amps (or SS amps for that matter) and
I've never liked Darrell's tone, but he does use Randall amps. He's been
playing Randall SS amps since waaaay before he was "somebody", and I've
never seen him plug into a Marshall. Also, his tone is about as
anti-Marshall as it could get, so I don't know who would think he's using a
Marshall. Darrell started playing Randall because he won a Randall 1/2
stack at a "battle of the shredders" type contest in Dallas back in the
mid-80's. Darrell was known as the best around Dallas/Ft. Worth at the
time, and he played a Randall ever since he won that one. I've played
through the "original" Randall that he used to play at local gigs and I
sounded like shit through it (not that I sound incredible anyway) but it was
definitely a SS Randall. He also used a rack mount EQ os some sort back
then and a wireless. And he never stepped on a pedal to switch between
clean and distortion - the band sound guy/guitar tech (Grady) would switch
it from the board even back when Pantera was a cover band.
All the guitar players I grew up with & associated with when I was Mr.
Flame's age have all stopped playing by now, and hell Kent you're 5
years older than me, so the odds aren't really with him still playing at
your age, in my opinion.
Probably the only reason I lived this long is that I was convinced that
I'd die before I was 25, so probably an early sense of mortality is what
got me this far. I got too much shit I never finished, so I'll have to
stick around. I'd hate to know what the best amp ever made was, there
isn't much to stick around for after that.
"it'z gettin kinda long, coulda... said it was in my way, but I
didn't..., and I don't know why..."
I don't know if I have the song on record anywhere, but it's sort of
etched in my mind.
It's funny how you can't even read. NOBODY
has responded at thios point in the thread
to whether that amp is good, bad, or ugly.
Go back to school.
Well, I WAS thinking in my head that Randall makes the ugliest fuckin

There are lots of great players that won't make the hall of fame and never
get radio play, so that's not necessarily an indicator of good tone or
talent.

I hate to come to Dimebag's defense since I don't know who he is at all,
and don't have the interest in listening to the new hordes of noise
maker kids, but it would be more appropriate if the R&R Hall of Fame was
renamed the Hall of Tame, since it's really only a bunch of commercial
success stories when you look at it. And now they've put most of the
commercial success stories in there allready, so they're putting a bunch
of them in there a second time only the second time they just give it a
different twist.
So, anyhow, from the recent Hall of Tame I dug up on a website:
performers
Aerosmith -Ok, I'll go along with that one
Solomon Burke -sorry, don't know this person
The Flamingos -sorry, don't know this person
Michael Jackson -what the fuck, how do they figure he belongs??
Queen -I agree
Paul Simon -they've GOT to be kidding
Steely Dan -Rock & Roll??? Aren't they Jazz Pop music? I like
some of their stuff, but...
Ritchie Valens -good selection
side-men
James Burton -James Burton!! Yes!!! Great choice!
Johnnie Johnson -no arguement, but Hall of Fame?

Well, seeing as Zippy didn't REALLY have the guts to kick over a

Although I didn't get my first guitar until 1963 (yeah, I'm another one
of those "kids" you spoke of), I've had occasion to own a quite few amps
since then. My first guitar amp (after playing through a tube Hi-Fi and a
Knight tube P.A.) was a solid state Silvertone. It was loud and sounded good
to my inexperienced ears. I've also owned and gigged with a Polytone Mini
Brute, Roland JC-120, Pignose (30/60 ??? dunno ... it *was* solid state
though), a hybrid Music Man (RD-112 ??), and a Carvin. There have been
several times I've played in bands with other guitarists who used solid
state amps (Kustom, Acoustic, Peavey, Marshall, Fender, et al). Overall,
NONE of the transistor amps I've owned, played through, or listened to
regularly could hold a candle to the WORST tube amp I've owned, played
through, or listened to regularly. To my ears, solid state amps lack warmth,
richness, and character. If that makes me a tube snob, so be it. I'm not
"scared" of solid state amps; they just don't have the tone I want. Until I
hear rave reviews about a solid state amp from guitarists I truly respect, I
have no need or desire to try out another one. My tube amps give me the tone
I want.
Your rant about the Cyclone and your subsequent name-calling and posturing
did nothing for your credibility. You might love the tone you get from it,
but you can't force other people to like the same things you do. Jumping
into this newsgroup the way you did just made you look rather juvenile.
Monte Barnett
I agree, the new music is too repetitive, and the record companies only care
about $$$$. It's clear that the "hall of shame"(as it's starting to be) is
under control by these industry leader's who don't allways take "talent", and
originality into consideration. It's a shame, I have met
many great musician's that will never make it due to this approach, one's that
are gifted with what most our generation would like to listen to, or go out and
buy. I can handle about 5minutes of radio, then my "Vintage" stuff go's in.
What will happen when were gone? Doug
Well, I stopped buying CDs of anything new a while ago (Ok, that's a
lie, because I bought 2 CDs by Junior Brown) because I finally realized
that it made more sense to buy CD versions of the best albums I had on
vinyl, that way I know I'll get something I like.
And I don't know what the radio is like in the rest of the country, but
around the Chicago area it's horrible, you know, the stations that used
to play innovative music in the '70s, are either gone, or turned into
stations that just play drool, and the station that used to play great
ROCK music play classic rock, which means that they don't play any of
the GOOD rock music from those eras, so essentially it ends up being
elevator music with a backbeat. And these stations are being bought up
by a corporation that goes around buying stations all across the
country, and converting them to the same lousy fuckin classic rock
station, so I know you have at least one owned by the same corporation,
no matter where you are.

god, i LOVED blue barrel and purple microdot. You can be sure he's not
getting anything that GOOD, or orange sunshine EITHER. Just like
everything else they get even the amps are watered down.
Your right. You see, many men were hurt trying to control the Cyclone's awsome
power. You see, Scott Ian is trained in amponeze, and was able to tame one of
the amps. Thats the one he has on tour with him now. I heard a fan lost his arm
in NY, when he reached up to touch it.
Dimebag plays the Warhead. Scott Ian plays the awesome Cyclone.

Post of the week.

This is starting to sound like a Stephen King novel...
Actually, I got the idea straight out of the "Guyverflame" episode of
the X-files. The one where Mulder kept saying "The truth is a loser,
Skully". Sort of a headbanger episode, it rocked.
...and make pots go scratchy, just by frowning and crossing
his eyes!

Folks, please overlook the spelling and grammer. What he meant to say is
"Scott Ian is a trained Chimpanzee"

Nickel Bag eats Mega Warhead Sours

Sounds like a vacuum cleaner. "That's right, folks . . . The Awsome Cyclone.
It REALLY sucks!!"
~ kp
Isn't that the guy from Anthrax?? Those guys use JCM-800's.
