Yeah, great tone. Don´t know what he used, but I´m sure any good
Marshall and a Les Paul would do the trick.
A how how how!

I believe the amp was a Fender Tweed Deluxe.
You mean that warm "rhythm" tone that is also in "Tush"?
It sounds like it could be a low power Fender tweed like a Deluxe, its got that
great dynamic breakup sound .Also, even though its a quiet groove you could tell
that the amp is up loud and is gonna explode if you hit it hard(attack)Probably
his neck pickup on Les Paul although I can get a pretty reasonable sound with
my Tele neck pickup w/tone rolled off guitar a little-I think its mainly the
fact that he Billy uses his fingers-its a drop dead John Lee Hooker lick. This
is all just my opinion..great intro though.

If memory serves, it was his Pearly Gates LP through an old
Fender amp. Its also the way Mr Gibbons uses his fingers along
with the pick in the intro.

I agree. That sound is what you get from a cranked tweed Deluxe with a
humbucker-equipped guitar played gently.

I remember reading in an interview that Billy uses a quarter as a
pick......
He uses a Mexican Peso from time to time.

Yep. For some tunes he does. But he also uses hybrid
picking, pick and fingers... a clawish approach. He likes
to play that little 7th chord (fifth and seventh) like this.
Very similar to a slide lick.
>He uses a PESO.
By the way... don't believe everything that the Right Reverend
Gibbons says... he likes to throw curves at you.
Or you can use an open A tuning if you don't want the capo
If you don't wanna use the complete open tuning just drop the
A (5th string) down to a G to match the 3rd G string.
The reverend uses many drop string tunings (e.g. drops lower E
to a D) to get more bottom end along with the open string chime.

Once upon a time he used quarters. Then he switched to pesos
(Mexican "dollar" coins"). He would file them down to a wedge
shape.
In the most recent GP interview he admitted to seldom playing
with these, because they're too rough on strings.

The "very" start (without any other instruments) is a Strat in position 2 or 4.
