Trying to fix my mates guitar amp. Its making hissy fizzy noises. I am
planning to inject a signal and attempt to trace it on a scope until source
of the mucky signal is found. thing is its really noisy. the speaker is 8
ohms, can I disconnect the speaker and put an 8 ohm 'dummy load' in its
place while I fault find? Without it damaging the amp? thanks.

What kind of amp is it. I just repaired an old Custom and replaced a
ll the small signal transistors in it. Luckily they are in sockets
was was easy. It was making sounds like you described.
