I have a Fender Champion 600 that I just did some minor mods to -
nothing drastic, just put in a Jensen speaker and JJ 12AX7 and 6V6 tubes.

What's going on now its that the map doesn't always produce sound
initially...it lights up, but no output. Until I cycle the power switch
once - then it works just fine (and sounds tons better than stock).
Things didn't start out this way initially, this started happening some
weeks after I'd done the swaps.

Is it as simple as that I got a bad tube (and which one?..I'm thinking
the 6V6) or is something worse amiss?

Gee the first thing I'd look at would be the switch.

You could put the old tubes back in and see if the same thing happens

...actually, I tried swapping 12AX7s in it just a bit ago, and I now
think that socket is faulty - it's not grabbing any old 12AX7 I put in
it (like the Sovtek one I wanted in there)...only the JJ one, and even
then the socket rocks a bit and it's difficult to make sure the tube is
actually fully seated and all pins in contact.

So I need to pull the chassis and have a close look at that socket.
It's working fine now, but I'll bet if I fiddle with it I'll get back
what I had.
