Got several very nice Celestion Century Neo 12 inch guitar speakers. Quite
spendy.

They are all three 16 ohm and I need 8 ohms. Buy or swap.

Check out the specs

Tom, Did you have a chance to plug that in in parallel with your 8
ohm Weber? I'm guessing that it kept up with the Weber, volume-wise.
Right?

There is a big difference between the original Celestion Century (Made in UK) and
the Celestion Century Vintage (first run was Made in UK and then production move to China).
Anyways -- these are 2 completely different speakers.
The link you gave is for the Century Vintage and not the original Celestion Century.

The Celestion Century is close to what a Celestion Lead 80 would be like (sort of)
And the Celestion Century Vintage is more like what a Vintage 30 would be like (sort of).

The Century is 80 watt speaker and has 102db/watt efficiency.
The Century Vintage is 60 watt speaker and has... ummm.. around 98 db/1 watt efficiency.

And yes - both are neo speakers... and the original Century was $$$$$$$$$$$$
I think they went for around $279 (US) -- they are no longer made and were
discontinued although the Century Vintage is still in production.

I don't recall if my reply got to you RS.

I put the high-efficiency (103 db) 16 ohm Celestion in my extension cabinet
in parallel with my Weber California in my Deluxe Reverb reissue, as you
recall.

It sounded better with the single speaker in the amp. With the external cab
it got kinda "mushy" in both speakers. Just not enough wattage, I suppose.

Sure sounds good with that Weber! Weber doesn't publish sensitivity, but It
seemed like it was very loud and solid. It was like an extra number or so
on the amp volume control, so I imagine the Weber has pretty high
sensitivity also.

Thanks for the followup, Tom. Always good to know the end result.

I'm surprised about 'mushy.' That Celestion is not one of my
favorites, but I would have characterized it on the opposite side of
mushy. I'm not sure it would be related to wattage though. Your amp
should be able to push both speakers. Everyone's ears are different
though, and it sounds like maybe you're looking for a more focused
sound.

They usually do. They make some great sounding speakers, so I'm not
surprised that you're returning to just the single Weber.

Thanks for checking back.
