Hi,

I'm working on a Breakout type game, with a lot of new features, including
multiplayer support. Anyway, need a good artist(who'll work for free) for,
well, the graphics. This would basically be artwork for the paddles, balls,
blocks, menus, and backgrounds. Ability to do some animated lightning
effects would be nice too. Thanks in advance.

Oh, and the images would have to be in bitmap form too. I can convert them,
but they should be 256 colors at most.

If you ever decide to pay an artist to help you with your game...I might be able to help you.

The client is buying the skills and the talents to do the job.  If none were needed then the client could do it themselves.

So... if help is needed ... I still might be able to help.

If it's that easy, why can't you do it yourself? Oh, because you don't
have the expensive equipment or software... right... oh and you haven't
had the training and practice? I see... yeah that could make it
difficult... but you're right, it wouldn't be very hard...

Hire a professional, then it might actually look good. Mike'd do a
kick-ass job, if you'd pay him....

the new version portfolio pages are not yet linked, because the tables are
going screwy, but the load fast-as-bejezzus, so here's the link:

and I'm oblidged to put my web design/hosting service link here, because I
need money, and who knows what'll happen.

You will find very rarely in games that the programmer is also an artist, for a very good reason.

I'm sure he would, but I can't afford to pay hundreds of dollars on the artist for a freeware game.

I'm not expecting anyone to do all of this, but any help would be appreciated.

Well, I know what it's like to not have money, I don't think I'm not sympathetic. As an alternative
approach, have you tried your local College or University? Who knows, there might be some
artistically-inclined computer-oriented students who'd help you out, either to flesh out their
portfolios, or even for some sort of extra credit perhaps (not having gone through Uni or College, I'm
afraid my knowledge on how that would work is a little limited). Can't hurt to try, can it?

Does anyone know where I can find good quality, black and white botanical
line art? Specifically, I'm looking for drawings of woodland plants, like
May Apple and Jack-in-the-Pulpit. It seems that all the clip art sites
feature unprofessional-looking "web art" type drawings.

Check out Dover Publications,Inc. for clipart of all kinds. I have an old
book called A Treasury of Design for Artists and Craftsmen. It has florals,
geometrics and primitive motifs. I have a few old books like this as they
used to be a big player in the clip art biz. I don't know if they ever went
electronic, but I still see lots of Dover books in kids stores for coloring
or filled with tattoos. Maybe they just figured new things to do with all
that art. Maybe they are just interested in more traditional forms of
publishing.

They certainly have an incredible library and it's royalty free.

Wow, a useful and educated response! What's the world coming to?!

This is crazy!

I feel so inferior. All I did was make a lame attempt at humor.

My quip bows to your coolness.

I hope you are responding to Andrew's post, and not mine or
Glory's. My dear, I suggest the exciting concept of "killfile".
It certainly made my life a lot nicer lately. :-)

I was replying to Glory's, and I meant what I said. That was cool of
her/him to actually put thought and effort into a response. Just
commenting.

You can get quite a few Dover books at amazon.com that come with all
the art on an accompanying CD. Just do a search at Amazon for Dover
Electronic Clip Art and you will find them. They are all reasonably
priced (around $8.00).

Thanks for the great tip. I still like Dover collections for themed art and
funky retro and vintage stuff.
