Does anyone know the file format of the sprite (.SPR) files in the gfx
folder of the Windows version of Lemmings? Or, alternatively, of any
software that can read them?

My son is starting to learn a little about games programming. As an
exercise, he has been working on emulating some Lemmings stuff. So far,
he has been painstakingly capturing each frame of the sequences he's
interested in, and rebuilding the animations from the captured images. He
has also created some new Lemmings from scratch, for example, one that
pulls out a cannon to blast away some terrain.

Incidentally, the bitmap (BMP) files do contain some higher-resolution
animation sequences, but many of them are the older, blockier type. I
suspect the sequences used in the game -- which are all displayed in the
higher resolution -- are stored in the SPR files (but please correct me
if I'm wrong).

Thanks!

Jim
