Hi everyone,

I'm new at Photoshop, and the used computer I
bought (PowerMac 9600/350mz) has Photoshop, but
no PS Help file -- so I'm kinda stuck.

I have been using Photoshop to create abstract
art at about 10" x 6.5" inches -- so the works
could fit landscape-wise on letter-sized paper.

But, now I realize that I want the works to
be enlarged to 4' x 5' for a wall-size version
to hang in a gallery.

Is it possible to re-save these files at the
expanded dimensions -- or will the resolution
quality be ruined?

I tried creating one from the beginning at
4' x 5' -- but a temp file took up hundreds
of MBs, hanging the computer for a long time.

Since I have hundreds of the page-sized works --
and the wall-sized dimensions hang up the computer
-- what are my options?

1> Is there a way to salvage the works I've
done by re-saving to wall size?

2> Or, do I need a faster computer to create
them from scratch at wall-sized dimensions?

3> If I can do it on this computer, couldn't
I save the bigger files on Jazz drives or
some other portable media -- or is that not
practical.

4> Most importantly, could I continue to create
the works at page-size, and enlarge them later
if I need faster hardware?

Thanks for helping this neophyte.

Claire

Claire,
It is not really an option to increase the image size unless your resolution
is high enough that you can lower the res and still have enough for
printing. General thinking is: If you double the image size, you need to
reduce the res by half. If you just increase the print size, PS will have to
add pixels to fill in the space, which results in a loss of image quality.

There is a plug-in called Genuine Fractals that allows you to increase image
size without altering resolution and without reducing image quality. I don't
know how it does this, but apparently it works pretty well. I have not used
myself yet, but it has been highly recommended by a friend.

You also need to ask whoever is doing your poster-size printing about the
resolution they need.

Hope this helps, Sara

Genuine Fractals is ok ... I have only just been mucking around with this
one - but also try S-Spline ... it's pretty good too and if you want to
purchase either - S-Spline is about half the price of Genuine Fractals I
believe. The "real" site name just eludes me for the time being .. but a
search for S-Spline will find it.
