Procreate-KPT effects?

PROCREATE????? And, this newest version of KPT called KPT@effects?
I am not a Painter user..(would like to be)...but, I had heard there was
some degradation to Painter once Corel had taken over...
Hmmmmm...again...I am surfin' their site...some of their links are not
hot...like....ABOUT US....
The KPT seems to fall short of anything really new??? Anyone using it?

Probably, you might check out comp.graphics.apps.corel and ask there.
If you care to wade through Corel/procreate's over-Flashed website (They
put the W in World Wide Wait!), you can find out more. I haven't the
patience.
For any who are interested, I have a summary of Painter 7 info that
requires at least a half hour to glean by using their website...with a
cablemodem. I'll post if here if it is wanted.

Both! :-) Think of Painter as having Photoshop plug-ins...on a brush.
Using a tablet will allow you to get the most out of Painter, even if it
is a Graphire (~$99), though the Intuos is more powerful. With the
tablet, you can easily set brushes to get bigger with increasing
pressure (or with velocity, or other settings, as you wish it).
For transforming pictures into paintings, Painter has a setting called
"Clone brush," in which you can designate an imported picture as the
item you wish to clone...and the settings on the "Clone brush" allow you
to duplicate the image exactly or not-so-exactly; with greater or lesser
opacity, with impressionist-like "dots," and many other variants. So
you just brush away with your clone brush, and voila...the cloned image
slowly (or quickly) appears.
As for the Painter 7 summary of info from Corel's website, and some
important details from the User Guide, here it is:
If you like Flash, and/or have the time to wait for these things to
load, you can see some pretty nifty previews and examples of brush
strokes and new text features on www.procreate.com. You're in for a
real treat of eyestrain, too, as the crucial details (system
compatibility, file formats, FAQS, etc) are squeezed out via eyedropper
one tiny bit at a time....as light gray text on white. This is a far
cry from Metacreations one-page wonder for Painter 6, still available to
those who curious: http://www.metacreations.com/products/painter6/
Unfortunately, if you just want the down-and-dirty details and critical
info without the Flash and eyestrain, you're in for a snotty message
soon after you type in www.procreate.com.

File Import and Export with Painter 7:
RIFF, TIFF (CMYK or RGB, but not LZW compressed), PICT,
PSD (CMYK or RGB), BMP, PCX, Targa, GIF, JPEG, EPS, AI (acquire/export).
On Mac, Painter 7 cannot acquire with TWAIN; the device must acquire via
a Photoshop-compatible plug-in.
Also, I've collected some URLs below for some important support issues.
If you go to kb.corel.com and click on the appropriate link for your OS
(Mac or Win), interestingly enough, there are no links for Painter 7.
This might lead you to believe that there are no support issues -- or
simply no support.

really, how hard is it to create the effects they are using? Not very, from
what I've seen), and if you use a lot of lightning, that filter may not be
overly practical, but it has more options and features than any other
lightning plug in I've seen to date.
The rest of the plugins look pretty crappy though. Hecate, there is no
'metal effect' filter :] There is one that duplicates Gel from KPT 6 and
Liquify from Photoshop itself (so why pay for something that's already
there?).
IMHO, if they only charged 50 bucks for it, instead of the 250 they are
trying to charge for it, they'd STILL have difficulty selling it.
But, but that same basis, KPT Effects continues the long standing KPT
tradition of mostly useless effects! :]

Ok The review I saw was written by Tom Arah
(http://www.designer-info.com/). Arah has been in the design business
for a long time, owns his own design studio, and I've found he knows
what he's talking about.You'll find a lot of useful reviews on his
site.This review isn't on his site yet, but is in a magazine I get
every month called PC Pro (which won't mean a thing to Americans I
suspect). Now obviously, fair use means I can't just show you the
whole article here, but his conclusion was:
" .....,This is typical of KPT EFfects as a whole. For each filter,
the power of the underlying engine is extraordinary and the end
results can be striking, but the lack of easy accessibility means that
few users will reach it;'s full potential. AS it is, KPT Effects
offers serious creative power, but only to the seriously dedicated
user."
BTW, sorry about the metal ref, I was thinking about something else at
the time :)
As for the Gradient Lab you mention, he says "...it takes gradient
fills to a new level...."
And so on. If any American wants the review, I'll be happy to scan it
and mail it to them. Brits, you have to go buy the magazine, sorry :)

A couple of the the effects (drip or something like that, there are
two that work similarly in the package) are pretty high on the "Wow -
Cool!" scale, and the results might have some benefit for those
seeking much more random looking CG grunge patterns (i.e. 3D artists,
for wear n'tear when mapping textures onto models)
