Hello all,
I was wondering if there are any graphics programs (or add ons) that can
transform a digital photograph into a photo that resembles an oil painting.

Explore the filters in photoshop.

There is a whole chapter on interesting filter effects, and some demo
pictures.

Yes, Mike, Jim's right! There is a tutorial that goes into this a bit. He
actually takes a photo and makes it into a watercolor with pen and ink, but
you can get an idea what sort of things you might want to try. The tutorial is
on a page called "Really Useful Site" and i have the link in my Photoshop
Resource Links under Tutorials.

Hello Mike,

My way to do it is to apply filters on multiple layers with different
opacity levels.
You can see a few of my "paintings" at

With all the existing usable filters, their options and their combination
there are thousands of possibilities.

Mike,

Although I don't know about such a program, I
know the real thing. at myDaVinci.com, you can
upload a photograph and myDaVinci has artists to
hand paint it into an oil painting.

There is a Program called - Studio Artist 1.1.1 for the Mac that will create
realistic painting effects of your photos. There are hundreds of presets and
all can be modified.
