Problem With "Divide Objects Below"

I really need to use this filter but i'm finding it very restrictive.

I keep getting "the filter cannot complete because more than one path is
selected"

All i want to do is handdraw some lines to cut my selection up with (its a
manga type image, i want to cut the fill areas so i can seperately colour
the shadows).

when i use Streamline to trace the lines, the result is a group of paths
that can't be ungrouped... is there a workaround for this? i need seperate
paths to use the above command?

Failing that, is there a vector program with a less restrictive "Divide
Objects Below" command?

Help much appreciated...

I just had a problem with that the other day.
With the object you want to slice on the bottom of the stack, draw your line
on top of it. Keep this line Selected _but not the object_ and go to Path,
Divide Objects Below and it should cut it nicely. Just Ungroup after that.

My problem was I had the bottom object grouped with something else and it
wouldn't divide it or it would act like it was closing the path instead of
being a stroked path. Very weird!!
Anyway, I hope this helps a bit.
