Hello,

Trying to line up two objects, centered perfectly on top of each other. I
select the two objects, open the Align/Distribute palette, and select the
alignment I want, but when I select the distribution I want, nothing seems
to happen. What might I be doing wrong?

Thanks,

Lynn

Distribution spaces objects equally. You have only two objects, so it's
impossible for them not to already have the same amount of space
between all selected objects. So Illustrator does nothing. Nothing
would change until you added a third object.

Distribute arranges multiple objects so that there is equal space between
them, so it never does anything when you have just two objects selected.
I think what you want to do is click the button to horizontally align the
objects' centers and then the button to vertically align the object's
centers.

You can't see something coming if you don't bother to look.

I don't think you can 'distribute' only 2 objects. 'Distribute' evenly
spaces objects (paths, shapes) so if you've only got 2, it can't quite
distribute anything. If you had 3 objects or more, and used the same
command, then you'd see what exactly it does. HTH

Duh, :)

I see now. I was misunderstanding the tool. Thanks to you all for your posts
and thanks for the explanations.
