Is KPT VE 1.5 compatible with Illustrator 10? I've installed into the
Illustrator 10 folder but it doesn't show up with I start the Illustrator
program. Works fine with v. 7 and 9. Thanks.

Strange how there doesn't seem to be any support for this fine product from
Corel. I couldn't even find mention of it at their site. Oh the shame of it!

It works fine for me. I actually had it installed with my 9 and then I was
lazy and cut and pasted it into my 10 plugins folder.

Yes. You may have installed it to the wrong folder though...

Another problem with a mixed platform group. Some PC folks have had
success getting it to woek in AI10 . It won't work at all on the Mac
version.

May constitute yet another reason to transition from a Mac to a WinXP
Pro machine! ..I've certainly had no problem running KPT Vector
Effects 1.5 with Illustrator 10 on a WinXP Pro machine with SP-1.

It's an anomaly and you happen to be lucky. Many Windows users can't use
it. Corel dropped all support, and there is no further version planned.
Not enough reason to leave the Mac.

Anomaly? ..Let's see. ..I've installed Vector Effects 1.5 on seven
machines now, most running Illustrator 10 with only a couple still
running Illustrator 9. Five are WinXP Pro machines, and two 98SE
setups. Not one of these installs has so much has blinked. So, no, I
don't view running Vector Effects 1.5 as a problem of any sort on a
well configured Windows graphic machine - and indeed I find it still a
highly appreciated tool.

As for transitioning from Mac, ..as with all of us who make that move
the when, why and how is a highly personal decision. As for me, I
began to transition years ago as I would go from my daily graphics
work on the Mac to "playing with" PC's at home as a hobby.

Now that Windows XP Pro machines are more than the equal of Macs both
as graphic and also as personal computing platforms, not only I but
our whole art department has transitioned from powerful G4 Mac's
running OS-X and Adobe's latest graphics packages, to equally if not
more powerful WinXP Professional machines running the same and even
more complete software packages (for example Vector Effects 1.5) -
with the added advantage of greatly increased compatibility with the
rest of our industry.

Don't even want to go near the Mac/PC thing. Suffice it to say, nothing
in my 13 computer years (25 as a graphics professional) could make me
leave the Mac platform- and I've seen it all. I have a Windows XP system
under Virtual PC) and I'm well versed with the all the speed tests. It's
skewed based on who's testing and what criteria they're given. The bonus
for Mac users is a much more elegant interface. I've been both places,
I'll stay here.
Getting back on topic,
If you go to some of the other boards, you will hear of many Windows
users not being able to use VE 1.5. Glad you have success getting it to
work. Corel has dropped support-it's dead- it's like any old program.
Once Windows moves on to another system upgrade, you'll be soon moving
on, too. So where's the real compelling reason to change platforms?
There is none, unless your firm requires that you changes platforms.
Since I own my firm, I don't have to switch.

Sounds like your depth of experience just about equals my own, ..and
like you I have no desire to beat the "Mac/PC thing".

As I said, anyone who makes a move from Mac to PC does so on the basis
of a "highly personal decision" taking into account any number of
factors particularly meaningful only to themselves. Some obviously
never see a need to convert - and that is of course 100% A-OK.

I cut my computing teeth on a Mac, originally running a new out of the
box copy of Illustrator 88 (which clearly dates me!), ..and stayed
with Macs as my graphics platform of choice, both at my company's work
place and at my own home office/studio, until about three years ago.
Then, with Adobe providing full quality software packages for the PC,
I set up a high end Windows 98SE machine for graphics use and quickly
came to enjoy it.

When WindowsXP Professional became available, I built two new high end
machines for my own graphics business, and have never looked back!
Now the company I've worked for these past 25 years has finally seen
the light and made the move under my guidence from Macs to WinXP Pro
machines. Yet I readily admit that such a move is not for everyone,
nor would I pretend otherwise.

The best to you always..
