I"m pretty new to using Illustrator and had two questions.

How can you make a border around multiple objects?

How can yo make a drop shadow? I tried to duplicate the object, change the
color and move it backwards, but it didn't work.

Thanks for any help.

When Posting any questions it's really helpful for those trying to
answer your question if say what version of Illustrator your using. Some
answers may not apply or make sense to you if they do not apply to the
version you are using.

filter/stylize/drop shadows or effect/stylize/drop shadows -- filters
actually change the object while effect leave the underlying object in tact.

For the borders, my first guess was to use object/path offset which would
likely create several paths so then pathfinder pallette/add to shape then
expand -- set your fill to nothing and your stroke to whatever you want.
