hello

sometimes i want to pick up all the shapes of a particular color, in
photoshop, i would just go to select color range, but i was wondering
if there was a solution for this in illustrator cs2.
for example, on a recent project i wanted to pick all the blacks of a
particular illustration, instead of having to pick each individual
piece, and some of them are small, is there an easier way to do it?

thanks in advance
n

Yes, but not exactly the same as Color Range in PS. If the objects are
exactly the same you can click select one object filled with that color,
then Edit menu>Select>Same Fill Color. This can be done with strokes,
etc., as you'll see in your menu choices.

(Things may be different in your CS2 as I'm still in old Illy 9.0.3, but
I know it's there somewhere;)

hi n,
Did you mean 'pick up all the *shades*' or did you mean shapes?
Not sure if this is accurate for CS2 but..
You can use the magic wand tool for either.
Double click the magic wand tool and in the dialog palette set your
tolerances accordingly for fill, stroke [adjust weight slider all the way to
the right for multi weight strokes if you want all object in color range
regardless of stroke weight] and opacity then select your color.
Be sure to check the flyout menu if you have objects on more than one layer
and click Use All Layers.

Hey, gemma, long time no see!
Yup:)

I'm in Illy 9. If there's a magic wand in my tolls box it's well disguised:(

Back atcha! Pouring down rain right now, which is a relief to me. No
neighbor kids will be setting my house on fire with fireworks;) Still
have to worry about idiots shooting guns in the air though.

Thanks steg. Wish I had a pair of nice moccasins. You can keep those
wooden shoes though;)

July 4th has nothing to do with our Native Americans though. It's about
our independence from British rule. I only wish that the end of the
Civil War and the abolition of slavery were celebrated as grandly.

How/what are you up to these days?

Oops!! Mix up with Thanksgiving I believe...

I am doing fine, been to France and will be going for a
short trip to Czechia in a few...work is bouncing up and
down, looking around....but having fun;)

Sounds like fun. I'd love to visit the Louvre someday.
Any pics to share?

Well, as long as work continues to bounce instead of
just going splat;)

Long story. No, though. An opportunity sacrificed to domestic peace:(

Yikes! You can keep that, I'll just deal with our humidity;)

You too. Hope we see more of you in these parts.

I believe the poster meant all the shapes with a particular
color, so Inez' answer should do the trick, also in CS2. Let
us see if the poster will be back, hopefully without caps;))

Happy 4th from a country without Indians to you all!
