Using Illustrator 10.03 on Mac OS 10.2.3.

I open a tif image and select the image, as I want to pick up colors
from different parts of the picture (for use in a color palette) using
the eyedropper tool. Nothing happens.

I am (99%) sure I have been able to do this in earlier versions.
What might be the problem?

In Illustrator 10.03 on the PC you can do it by holding down the
shift key while clicking on the picture with the eye dropper tool.
