Would you know how to join a bunch of identical ones end to end??

you have several align tools ,
select your objects and then Objects > Align or something like that. i
dont have illy open right now.
there are also icons for aligning.

Select the object, then
Object > Transform > Transform Each
(Atl + Shift + Ctrl + D) using Windows
you wi8ll see the Transfrom Each dialog box
Scale = 100%, 100% (H & V)
Move
Horizontal = width of object
Vertical = 0
select Copy, not OK
This places a copy to the right of the original.
Key Ctrl + D for another copy, continuing hitting Ctrl + D till you
have enough copies.
You might have to play around with the Move Horizontal = xxx because
of the objects stroke width and exactly how you want it.
Mac shortcuts would obviously be different.
As an example if you wanted each copy to align horizontally & decend 1
pt
Move
Horizontal = xxx pt
Vertical = 1 pt
jbl
To decend this should be
Vertical = -1 pt
>Move
>Horizontal = xxx pt
>Vertical = 1 pt
>
The above would create copite ascending by 1 pt each time
And while I don't get a comission or have anything to do with it, I
strongly recommend the book Adobe Illustrator CS Revealed, Chris
Botello (526 pages) for beginners and for reference to experienced
users. $14.99 new at amazon dot com.
I keep a PDF copy and refer to it often.

Great info. I want to align them end to end with no space in between.

If horizontally: make sure what the length of the (larger)
bottom line is.
Use the Transform > Move Command. Copy horizontally with
that horizontal shift. If you want them to shift also a bit
vertically, type in that value also. After that: cmnd-D
