Did the binary groups get killed for everyone on SBC / ATT servers? I've
asked them why they did it and when they will be reinstated. Has anyone
heard a reason yet? Looks like anything with poser was deleted. Even
binaries.lightwave, and there hasn't been anything posted in there for
months.

As I understood it they killed those NG's cause of childporn/spam or such. I
can not really tell since my news provider Supernews (part of Giganews) has
a good filter in place and see almost no spam and things like that. Could
also be that they are killing those groups to save bandwidth under the
reason mentioned above. Or ... your ISP has become as tight assed as
Renderosity and are killing everything that even remotly could be considered
"dangerous" like nude pixie renders ;-)
Anyway, good luck.

New York State Att General Andrew Cuomo is responsible. See
http://www.nystopchildporn.com/He feels that child porn is being posted on
all alt.binaries newsgroups. I have contacted him with this letter July 13:
Sir: You are very wrong to claim that all alt.binaries are porn related. I
belong to a group called alt.binaries.3d.poser where we share images
produced from an expensive program called "Daz's Poser" and in all the
years, I have subscribed to this newsgroup, I have not seen even one where
child porn was portrayed. As a 74 year old wife, mother, grandmother(11) and
great grandmother(2), I abhor child porn. I have been a victim of sexual
abuse by 2 close relatives as a child and would not tolerate child abuse of
any kind. Your linking child porn to alt.bin groups is tantamount to saying
that because several politicians have been fraudelant -all politicians
should be banned from serving! Drunk drivers have caused people to be killed
yet we do not take away everyone's drivers licenses! And yet because there
may be a few disgusting people on the internet, my ISP (AT&T) has taken away
a newsgroup that have not been guilty of this. I feel my rights have been
violated and that this wrong can be righted. We live in the United States of
America, not the Soviet Union or China.I am homebound with several medical
disabilities and this newsgroup (Alt. binaries.3d.poser) has been a source
of contact with people that share my love with the Poser program. Granted,
there is nudity and perhaps an occassional erotica but there is also a
warning to those who do not wish to see this art but never child porn!
Please contact AT&T to let them know of this problem.
Yours truly

These will not be reinstated on AT&T newsgroups. I would suggest bombarding
him with complaints and telling others to do the same

Rita,

I've sent a couple of emails back as well, but I'm afraid that I have seen
some images, primarily on the poser group, that probably do cross the line.
I have no interest in getting in to argument about that, just one of those
you know it when you see it things. One of those was about a week ago, might
be the one they were able to put in front of someone and say, see! My
letters are geared towards trying to get the vue, bryce and lightwave groups
back on the list since those packages aren't geared towards images of humans
and it's more difficult to produce questionable materials. They just blanket
deleted anything under alt.binaries.3d, which is an overreaction.

Good luck to us!

It's not just the graphics groups that were yanked.
ALL alt.bin groups are *gone*..... unless you go down to free.alt.bin
The only thing that's being posted there, however, is those annoying
"cancel" messages that no one reads. I cannot understand why they
would pull the entire alt.bin section off their servers when some of
them were not even graphic-oriented.
I love this country, *but*, I for one, and getting really fed up with
our so-called-government trying to tell us what we can and cannot do
with our personal lives!! The old book, "1984" and "Ferinheight 451"
aren't so much fiction anymore....they're slowly becoming a reality.
What a sad, sad world we live in today.
I think I may change ISP's just to see if it makes any difference....
doubtful tho. (sigh)

Hey Brycers,

I am convinced that ALL the alt.binaries groups were pulled because of the
flap
over the New Yorker cartoon about Barack Hussein Obama and his wife dressed
as Terrorists.
It was a stupid cartoon that was really about what the Rich Elitist Leftists
think that we in the middle of the country think.
I thought, AFAIK, only Muslims seemed to get upset about cartoons & then
killed things.
Looks like some of our people do that too.

In any case, they do not want spinoffs of such cartoons passing around on
the Internet
thereby affecting the fall elections.
They don't want to be accused or sued or held responsible in any way for
hosting any kind of political lampoon images that would impact any
candidate.
A rather anti-American view, IMHO.

Their action is blatant outright CENSORSHIP
instigated by some people in branches of the Government who are in collusion
with Special Interest groups and they *Influenced* the ISPs.
Now whether that was Coercive or Cooperative... we may not know for a while.
I do not buy their excuses.

This should be a lesson to all of us exactly how tenous our "Freedoms"
really are.
The fight has just begun.
See how easy they can *take it all away*?

They can do the same to anyone's life just as easily.

Graystar

BTW, they are stupid because they didn't kill the de.alt.binaries.
Overlooked? Possibly, but were I looking to implement a restriction
filter... DE would have been 1st on the list having been to Germany and saw
what I saw in the public square there. I find it odd that the *Network
NAZIs* missed that one. <the morons that they are>
But then they are not trying to Censor the Germans... Just Americans, eh?
THINK!

Bryce on.

This all started around July 12 way before the Obama toon. Recently AT&T
dropped all alt.binaries newsgroups
http://my.att.net/newsgroup/s/s.dll?spage=cg/news/newsgroup001.htm&only=y&ck=
because of New York state Senator Andrew Cuomo
http://www.nystopchildporn.com/ and while I agree with his war on child
porn, I was forced to write him this letter:

Sir: You are very wrong to claim that all alt.binaries are porn related. I
belong to a group called alt.binaries.3d.poser where we share images
produced from an expensive program called "Daz's Poser" and in all the years
I have subscribed to this newsgroup (at least 10) where we critique each
others work, I have not seen even one where child porn was portrayed. As a

74 year old wife,mother, grandmother(11) and
great grandmother(2), I abhor child porn. I have been a victim of sexual
abuse by 2 close relatives as a child and would not tolerate child abuse of

I still have not heard from Cuomo's office and after contacting AT&T, they
now call these sites illegal. Bryce is included along with Poser ng.

I agree that this is the trumped up excuse they used for the Censorship.
Don't kid yourself however... this was planned. You can tell by how fast
they "rolled it out".
They know that the binaries groups do not have the problem they describe
because they said it was "possible".
Well anything is possible, including influencing politics & even if this was
before the New Yorker cartoon.
I stand by what I said. They wanted to impose the "fairness doctrine" on
the Internet and now they have by fiat.
There was no voting on this. It was unilateral without concern for who it
effected and was designed to kill a form of free speech, namely: pictures.

There are ways around this by subscribing the news services that have no
filters. How many will do that? Not as many IMO unless they are dedicated
users.
Child porn is just plain stupid and twisted. That is no reason to kill off
an entire avenues of free speech not even connected with such a repulsive
activity.
That said, this is the kind of "Let's throw the baby out with the bath
water" approach that always happens when you allow governments to coerce,
fear driven, pig ignorant managment types into actions without thought or
consideration.

But don't worry. Now the "messiah" is safe from having it pointed out by
some rube that Obama's clothes are transparent.... right?
yeah, uhuh, right. <left>

I agree, they were looking for an excuse, someone gave them one. It's not
about the images really, it's about the control. Big government at it's
worst. One of the many "changes" we can expect if Obama gets in and the role
of big brother expands ever wider. Just drink the kool-aid and let the
government take care of everything, because you can trust it when Obama is
in charge.

I agree, only I think it is about the images and the image creating
communities.
Look, if they wanted to do what they said, as I pointed out earlier: why
didn't they kill the de.alt.binaries groups.
They have been posting the same bilge pictures weeks after they did this
extermination of all those American digital communities.
They clearly are stopping any possibility of sharing any political satire or
humor over the whole Internet.
Big Brother, Nazi, Fascist, Pig-Ignorant.... no difference, imo.
I don't believe in this "massa-eye-ya".

I will not comply and I will not be sterilized. <a little Borg & NOMAD lingo

They have not killed those groups yet, if they are going to.
I called them and asked them about it.

They were... clueless.
I made a pointed complaint about the unintended consequences of what they
did with several examples.
