Yes they will. Usualy any enemy of the state isnt going to fare to well int he
textbooks (history books are completely state propaganda typicaly full of
distortions and bullshit sprinkled around the facts etc.etc.) and that is
something that unless the govt. accepts graffiti is just how it will be if its
mentioned _at all_. The only way for the government to accept graffiti is to
obviously make it legal or stop doing illegal stuff which then obviously
wouldnt be graffiti if it was all legal.

The problem is that graffiti is just like any other interetest that people
have. Its composed of a wide range of people with a wide range of opinions,
some people are useful and positive, others are just full of bullshit, and
others dont care. I dont know, sometimes i think it would be good if there
was unity, but most of the time i feel like i will just do what i do because
it doesnt require other people telling me im not representing graffiti right
or not hardcore or some shit to get what im doing done. Yes, for the most
part the writers i meet are cool, but also onthe other hand 99% of the writers
i meet and talk with, including myself, are caught up in some stupid bullshit
loop in some area or idea or another, and thats why i like arguing with people
on here. it makes me think things through, and whether i admit im wrong or
not or am wrong or not, it makes me think about things and makes sure i
actualy have reasons for what i believe. Arguing with people about graffiti,
especialy in person, is one of the most fucking difficult things ever.
ridiculous. whatever. im tired and pissed, although its not graffiti related.

Did i even cover the things was going to in that response?..
oh well, drifting.
it was a long drive home.
and here i am.

The fact is that Graffiti is already in the history books and is being
documented and collected as art. Check out www.animalstore.com and get
apprised at whats really going on out there. Peace

In art college there is always discussion about graffiti art, both in
studio classes and in art history classes as well as in philosophy
classes...there has been videos Ive watched with graffiti art in them,
talking about keith haring etc. At the library, which consists of 90% art
books containing works from well known artists (warhol, picasso etc...)as
well as numerous books on the various art periods (gothic, renaisance,
modern etc...) and art styles (cubism, impresionism etc) etc etc...you
will also find spraycan art, subway art and a few other lesser known
graffiti books (actually, they are no longer there because someone stole
them, but they are listed on the computers if you look up "graffiti")

Also, right now modern graffiti is relatively young, and because it is
new and different to contemporary art it is viewed as non-art. When
impressionism (monet etc) first came on the scene it was shunned by other
artists at the time. As well, when you look back and see a lot of works
of royal families and kings things like that - that was the accepted
normal type of stuff going on. People bought those works, they were safe,
easy to do, and biased. The painter wouldnt want to piss off the member of
the royal family so he would make him look good...on the other hand you
had less popular works that depicted plague victims, or peasents, basicly,
everyday life - these were shunned as well and deemed unfit, other artists
and people would say "who would want to look at that ugly stuff" (sound
familier?) ...nowadays, art scholars and historians look at these works
that depicted everyday life so that they can learn what it was really
like.
So look at art that you see around you today...urinals called
"fountains"...christos "wrapped island"...abstract works,compositions with
only three colors (mondrian) and so on...all of these are cool ideas and
look good, but dont nessarily reflect whats happening nowadays. They are
accepted now and in history books, but there is a whole other side.
Now look at the comparisons -- graffiti, like most forms of "new" art is
shunned as was impressionism, pop art etc, by people who dont understand
it and are not involved. Also, some graffiti documents whats going on in
a certain period of time...in graffiti we see things like characters with
guns, drug deals, political statements every now and then, polution etc
(of course this is not exclusive to grafiti but its involved).etc etc etc

You will see graffiti in history books, I think youll see alot of classic
train peices form the late 70s early 80s, and productions of today,
frieghts etc...anyways...

deviations from the norm are quickly neutralized by the powers that be.

>>do u guys ever think how graffiti will be protrayed in the future like
>>in our history books?

no, because they'll never look at it on a person to person basis, they'll
just make lots of crummy generalizations about us and print up a bunch of
statistics on how much damage we caused annualy and whatnot. they'll never
pay attention to why we do it. just the negative affects it has on
everything, like this place: <A
HREF="http://santamonicapd.org/text/t594.htm">SMPD Text: Graffitti Problems</A>.

>>well i did and i doubt they will ever have shit in text books about this

yeah, that too...people suck, huh?

>>well i think we should make a real impact on society and for what graff
>>is today it aint shit were all hated for the most part by society and
>>the government state wide takes the steps to try to stop us as best >>they
>>can .

the sad thing is that eventually graff will die out. and only then will
society realize the incredible affect that it had on people....the main
problem with graff is that it only affects the people who do it in a good
way, everyone else just sees it as good or bad, but dont take the time to
examine it at all.

>>well ud think instead of doing our own thing wed really unite but
>>instead we bicker about bullshit about whos toy whos king why so and >>so
>>is a fucker and it seems that we even hate our own little graf >>community

yeah, i hear ya...we're all so typically and predicatbly human it disgusts
me. oh well, i guess we'll self destruct like every other sect of society.

>>evryone wants to do there own thing. so uhh what do u thik
>>would unite all of us trouble makers?
>>how can we move graffiti out of the gutter reputation it has?

nothing, we all have different ideals and goals for our art and
stuff...most people arent even doing this to say something anymore, they do
it cos its cool to do and shit. at the high school i used to go to everyone
and their fuckin brother wrote and for the most part none of them have them
have ever put up a tag, nevermind a throw up or a piece, yet they still
carry around their fuckin blackbooks and pilots like their gonna, they even
walk down the tracks and take flicks but never fuckin do anything. i hate
all of them, they call themselves writers amd they dont even have any
intention of paying their fuckin dues.
