I find it interesting whenever management pulls out these kinds of
"motivational" books. I tend to call it BS because it seems that
management wants to use these books as a way to make employees accept
management ideals without management putting in real effort.

Just blathering on a Friday.

Seems to be largely true. It's never about working *with* employees'
intrinsic motivations or rewarding success with things that actually
encourage repetition of success, at least if it costs anything. Even
uncapped commission sales are going away in favor of some sort of tiered
salary.

I have, in fact, pointed out to my boss that it is probably a bad idea
to give me books like this to read, as the end result is withering
sarcasm about said ideals for the next several months, at every opportunity.

One of the many little projects I have on the back burner is an idea for
a self-help web site for People Like Us, which would embrace the
negative side of things. I've got "nagster.net" reserved.

I remember an Empowerment seminar that was held by my previous
employer. Attendance was compulsory.

I recall being quite vocal about how if I were truly empowered I would
be able to not attend seminars that were a complete waste of my time.
The presenter was a little embarrassed I think, but everybody in the
class agreed with me.
