How long have you been posting to alt.gothic? less than a year. Since
June or July, I think?
Did you lurk beforehand? If so, for how long? on various occasions,
over a period of a few years, all totaling maybe a year's worth.
Why do you post to alt.gothic? amusement
What has alt.gothic done for you? so far, distractions from a realy
boring life. And sometimes from a not-so-boring life. Not sure which
is worse there ...
Have you ever participated in a bread war? Is that something like
Soviet Russia?
Which absent netgoth do you most want to see here again? Don't know
enough of them to know.
Have you ever snogged a(nother) netgoth? If so, was it any good? Yes,
before I was one though. And yes, it was.

year.
What other newsgroups do you frequent? only subgroups here
What other online forums do you use? livejournal
Do you have a personal website? Sort of ... threecrowstextiles.com

sewing than I realy want to do

What sort of music do you like? Any and all
What was the last piece of music you listened to? Gogol Bordello,
Start Wearing Purple
What was the last band/musician you saw live? err, Abney Park I think.
What was the first band/musician you saw live? don't remember, I was a
very, very tiny Kit at the time. Probably an orchestra or folk band
though.
What recent musical discoveries would you recommend? Gogol Bordello,
though they tend to annoy people. It's got accordions.
What music are you most embarrassed to own? I'm not actually
embarassed by any of it ... Probably some fo the WW2 era spoof music
though.
What musical instruments do you play? Piano and harp, both rather
badly. Will be learning the hurdy gurdy soon, and irritating
*everyone*.
Are you, or have you ever been, a member of a band? Nope.

Have you ever used toilet duck? yes... ~Fi ...
What sort of old person will you be? either the one that sits on a
porch with a shotgun ranting about those durned kids in the yard
(corncob pipe and all), or the scary old lady in the big pointy house
on the hill that all the children are afraid of. But if anyone
actually manages to ring my door on Halloween, they'll get the best
candy *ever*, provided that they tell the other children that I tried
to throw them into an oven or somesuch. Reputation is *everything*.
How would you like to die? quietly. Or memorably. Not sure which, but
memorably would probably hurt more. More than likely I'll either fall
off a bridge or get crushed to death when the Lincoln Tunnel falls on
my head and eats me.
How would you like to be remembered? As something whimiscal and weird
How do you expect to be remembered? generally psycho
What would you like to ask the people at home? nothing comes to
mind ...

What would you like to know about the people at home that you don't

think they'd ever tell you? But *why* isnt' there any kabal? They
sound like such fun!

I'm glad someone else likes Hackers. I loved it. Most other people think

I had a tv back then. Which is part of the reason why I don't much care for
one now. Satori and I grew up in homes where the magic talkie box was
omnipresent and omnipotent.

When I was married to my first husband, I went though this phase where I
always thought we were out of Toilet Duck. So, every time we went shopping,
I bought more. Even though G. said over and over, "no, we have some. I
promise." which escalated to "Don't buy anymore goddamned Toiled Duck. We
have plenty."

There was a neat little row of Toilet Ducks in the bathroom cabinet.

~Fi, no, I'm not obsessive-compulsive. Why do you ask?

I think Rowanberry posted this earlier, but it might have gotten lost in the
recent deluge of posts.

A few weeks ago, Satori and I went out to run errands and a while after we
left, Rowanberry went out as well, thus leaving Mold Manor empty. We have a
futon on our porch that is being used as erstaz patio furniture, and when we
came home, the mattress was in the back yard. I assumed that Rowanberry
moved it for some reason. At dinner that night, Rowanberry asked "why'd you
guys move the futon thing?" To which I replied, "I thought _you_ moved the
futon thing." Sure enough, neither of us had moved the futon thing, and
when we went out to inspect more closely, the futon mattress had been draped
over two palets which formerly held landscaping bricks, and the distinct
impression of two human forms could be seen in the mattress.

I guess that fucking in the sp00ky people's back yard wins pretty big
points. Despite an extensive discussion of oddest/most random/coolest
places we've had sex, not one of the three of us could come up with
something quite as amusing as on the futon mattress of the sp00ky people in
their back yard.

For what it's worth, our lot is widely reported to be haunted by the
neighbors, even the adults that we know.

I'm looking forward to it. When we got the LA Opera's 2006/07 schedule, I
wanted to see it because of the parallels between Mahogonny and Vegas. I've
also not seen much contemporary opera, so it will be a new experience.

Earlier this season, Satori, Rowanberry and I saw Manon. It was a wonderful
production.

Most cyberpunk films are crap in plot and acting. To be fair, it's rather
hard to make hacking look visually interesting. A room full of people
typing and 3 day old pizza boxes and Jolt cola cans doesn't make for a
stimulating strip of film.

Uh, Peter, that was a delicate sort of spelling lame from me.

"Collage", re. your education ... see?

OK OK. But still, it's all long-gone, no MP3's. There was, I think, an
album that was made before my time, I'm not sure ... but IAC it's all
long-gone.

Well, at one point I was really enamoured of the Impressionists, but
that was influenced by a visit to the Boston Museum of Art (??) when
they had the best Monet collection & most of it was out on exhibit (30
years ago?)

I seem to have very broad tastes in music & art, actually, and some of
it is sappy but that doesn't really predominate the range. I recall
perhaps 35 years ago going to a gallery where someone had hung a huge
sheet of metal & made other arrangements, and a thunder-and-lightning
storm was simulated; I rather liked it. I can't think of the name of
the guy who does things like the umbrellas & such, large public
exhibits, but I like those too. (I'm sick, no research tonight, but I'd
recognize it.) I like Rembrant, vanGogh, Monet, Manet, Picasso, Warhol,
Klimt, Wyeth, Erte, and many others ... civil war photographs, Ansel
Adams, and up to several moderns and some who shoot erotics ... I love
my daughter's "life studies" (people) as she somehow evokes the erotic
in her drawing of even clad human forms, I used to own some watercolor
etchings that I adored & I miss losing two paintings that were bought in
a small fair in W.Va, I have had some fabric that I made into drapes
30yrs ago that I miss to this day, etc. etc.

My tastes in art, books, and music tend to just be all over the map,
limited really only by "what I like" (and even so, that evolves over time.)

I'm sorry to not be more specific, though.

Oh. Quite seriously, having never done things the proper way, what
college I have is not of a form that I was enrolled full-time. For some
strange reason, I have always thought of the drop-out rate in colleges
being driven by those who "offer" to do leave.

Never crossed my mind that someone could be "asked to leave" who was
paying tuition up to that point.

Sure; a lot of places have rules on how many times you can re-take the same
course if you're consistently failing, so someone who hasn't got the
required grades after a set period of time will not be allowed to re-enrol
for any more courses. And of course if someone breaks the rules, by
plagiarising or whatever, they can be kicked out.

Er?? How does one choose to own a certain book if not meaning to read
it? Surely it's not to impress others, since they won't be checking the
titles when one has a lot of books.

I've always enjoyed owning what I've enjoyed reading, but I can't
imagine owning too many books that I haven't read, nor any at all that I
don't mean to read short-term (except those given as gifts and chosen
because the giver thought I should have it, rather than that it was
something I would really read.)

Is this simply another oddity of mine, that perhaps having not had a TV
for many years -- and finding it hard to watch TV without reading at the
same time -- I actually *read* what I buy?

Well, I have books I haven't read cover to cover, but that's because they're
reference books, or, in one case, because I bought a set of books
(collections of short stories) and haven't got round to reading them all
yet; they the sort of books you dip into rather than sitting down and
consuming whole.

I suspect that's true of most people. But there's a certain type of person
who is just naturally suspicious of those who actually read, and assumes
that it's all just posturing rather than a genuine enjoyment of literature
and/or high need for cognition.

At least it's interesting. Although it is somewhat annoying that we're the
scary house that the neighborhood kids dare the other kids to go run in to
the backyard of. One of my next home improvement projects is going to have
to be to secure the back yard. On one hand it's kinda cute and really

There's a difference between "meaning to read it" and actually doing so.

I own books that I haven't read, although it's way less than 75%. Some have
been gifts that I haven't gotten to. Some are books that I meant to read
and haven't gotten to. Some are books that I started to read and then for
various reasons I haven't gotten back to finishing.

I think that most people don't. They have books that they either mean to
read or they buy because they think that they should.

~Fi, books tend to follow me home.

Perhaps my bigger problem is coming within too close proximity of
Powell's too often!

I swear, even if I confine myself to just the front 3 rooms, I can't
leave without at least 8 books in tow.

(No, actually it's a much older habit; I started buying my books at
about age 12 and kept most of them, but now most are gone.)

When I lived in NY and worked in a restaurant, my ex-husband and I went to
the library's used book sale on one of our days off. On our way back home,
we stopped in to our place of employment suitably laden with bags of Really
Cheap Books. One of our cow-irkers came over, looked at the bags of books
and asked, in all seriousness, "Are you going to read all those?" G.,
without missing a beat, replied: "No, we're going to build a fort. We got
tired of saving up all our toilet paper rolls and thought this would be
quicker."

I went through a mega purge of my belongings over several months in
2005. First time I got really got rid of anything. Most of my old
books are gone from childhood.

Mine was quite an unwilling sort of purge, around the same time. I
would never have been able to get rid of any books or musical
instruments or the few pieces of art. Furniture, though ... who cares?

OK, and I do miss my good (high carbon full tang) Sabatier kitchen
knives, that were ~25 yrs old at the time. (We've discussed that, I
won't go back over how wonderful they were, but dangitall they were!!!!!!!!)

Hot chocolate; nope, not with meals, by itself or with cookies.

One human: usually water. Rarely- apple, orange or grape juice. Hot
chocolate in tiny amounts, nothing else caffeinated, cause caffeine hates
her.

Other human: usually water, fuzzy water/seltzer. Sometimes juice, herb
tea, or real tea.

he like blueberry tea. He must be *crazy* abotu me!

One is lactose intolerant and the other doesn't much like milk. They both
hate coffe, and don't like to drink alcohol.

They were recently given some "Mark's Sauce" which seems ot be a Kentucky
