issue of Vanity Fair and there are some publicity stills in it. The sets and
costumes look great. Professor McGonagall looks very cool, though a bit
older than I pictured her. Why couldn't *I* have gone to Hogwarts!?

I threw a fit in hudson news when I saw VF. The guy behind the counter
looked at me like I was on crack.
Yes, looking forward to it. like, ridiculously. Like, geeking out with
friends on AIM about it. for hours. sending ppl owl posts. clearly, I
am in need of some help.
I think my expectations may be a teeny bit too high, I'm trying to reign
them in. I don't want to be disappointed. I already have it so vividly
in my head, I'm not sure if live action can do it justice. In my head,
it's animated. but in my head, Hagrid is played by my father, so what
can I tell you? eh. we'll see how it goes. I'm excited.
I re-read sorcerer's stone last week to soothe myself...now I have to
locate the rest of them in my house bc I am a sick woman & need to
re-read them all.
The first time I read them, I had to read them in one sitting, stayed up
all night & all that jazz. Now they've become familiar, soothing. Like
a bedtime story. I can read a bit & then go to sleep. I know what's
going to happen, but I enjoy it all the same. Maybe moreso.
heh. while geeking out on AIM, I went & got myself sorted.

I'm trying to, really. I loved the books and can't wait for the next
one. However I watched the trailer yesterday and it just didn't feel
right. I don't know if was the sets or the actors or the dialog or
what, but after seeing the trailer my interest in the movie dropped
several notches.

I'm personally at the oversaturation point already. The Sears Christmas Wish
book is hawking Harry Potter *socks* and bedsheets, ferchrissakes. Why is it
that people can't ever just let a nice story remain a nice story without
pushing lots of plastic, badly made crap to go along with it? I mean, would
having pink Harry Potter socks really make the experience all that more
meaningful??
Harry Potter has been put into my "I'm sick to death of this" file. He's
cozying up with Bin Laden, Hello Kitty and Britney Spears.

I've been following the movie for a while now. I'm very much looking
forward to it. I had a lot of trepedation about the director, but it
seems that J.K. Rowling did get her say in a lot of things, and the
things I've seen give me some hope.
I think the US release of the movie is going to happen over our
honeymoon though, but I'll look forward to seeing it as soon as we get
back!

I was laughing the other day - there are select few channels you can
watch here to take your mind off things, few that don't cut in with
anchors or celebrities or whoever sharing their $.02. Game Show
network is one of them. The other day we were watching Press Your
Luck, the show with the whammies, where people scream at the screen
"Big bucks! Big bucks! No whammies!"
... and I noted it was odd they never made any merchandise for them.
Of course, I think the show was at it's peak around the mid-80's, and
IIRC, the real merchandise frenzy we know of today started with
Batman, in 1989.
At work, I'm sometimes amazed by the things we have licenses for.
Things that haven't even come out yet (and in my opinion, as someone
who has worked in marketing for a few years now, as well as someone
who has collected toys, etc for even longer, won't ever have the
slightest merchandising demand) have huge merchandising pushes.
The funny thing, though: I see tons of Harry Potter stuff, from the
first wave, pre-movie, on clearance.

Don't know about other stores, but it's on clearance at the Warner
Bros. store b/c the whole chain is going out of business. A sales
chick told me they were to have all stores closed by Oct.
But maybe it's on clearance elsewhere b/c the merchandise has been out
so long? That, and trying to make way for the upcoming movie-related
wave?
But, yes, I'm very much awaiting Nov. 16th. With all the hype, I
wouldn't be surprised if people start lining up to buy tickets several
hours in advance like they (and I) did for Episode I.
And I'm wondering which fast food chain will score the HP toys (so
I'll know how many kiddy meals I'll have to buy just to throw out the
hamburger). Wendy's has had Warner Bros. stuff in the past.

I'm only slightly less antsy about it than I am for Lord of the Rings. All
of the photos I've seen so far are *perfect*. Wonder casting; wonderful
feel/mood.

i.e. you're flying out? if all else fails, you could just drive to a
hotel in some deserted spot. after all, most honeymoons aren't about
scenery ... not the geological kind, anyways

Don't know, but I'm not buying it. I positively *hate* the artist who is doing the
movie promotional graphics. Those posters are absolutely ghastly. And his scar is
all crooked.

I was first amazed by that when the Flintstones Movie came out. Before that I
either never noticed, or they never released merchandise quite so early before.

Head was a real bust in my opionion, but hey, they got it out early.

I've not seen any genuine Harry Potter merchandise barring the journals and card
games. Mostly I've seen generic "Wizard Doll"s. It's this Potterish character
sans scar in a black robe. A lightningbolt is across his chest and his wand has a
little star on the end. Now HE drives me nuts.

What's the point in going the opening day, I ask? It will still be there a week
later. Then again, that's how I operate.

Mikey D's most definitely for the first wave. Burger King will trail along about
two or three months afterwards. Probably.
