************* REVIEWS ************* SCRIPTURE *************

reprinted from Theatre ov the Night magazine, # The Resurrection
(for more information regarding TotN see bottom ov post)

** As If, #1, $4
c/o: Clint Catalyst
Hendrix College Box 3223
Conway Ark 72032
A clint zine! one ov the best collections ov underworld writings & art i've
yet seen - & so many new names! i don't know most ov these fiends! (yet...)
& so much art & so many poems... i just want to languish in the pages ov As If
forever. it is GOD. my favourite z new zine. Clint Catalyst is GOD. the
art is very dark & cool, the naked piccies so grand & textural...& the writings
equally so - & the honest in their intensity ov emotions conveyed... all ov it
exudes such a natural sinister sensualuty...& besides all that we've got a
wonderfully long interview with In Remembrance's lovely dark angel, Jenny Soup,
along one with Chambrefantombe which includes the best typo ever - "Think for
thyself" was changed to "Drink for thyself" (!) - this discovered at our last
Royal Razberry Riunite party no less!!, as well as the hilarious shock rock -
Theatre of Ice & the gods ov deathrock - The Prophetess. Glorious. i have
only one question, who the hell is this "Lakey Kristian Goff"? love, Lake

** Blue Blood
14207 Chesterfield Rd.
Rockville, MD 20853
too much gratuitouscasualanonymous sex. whoever heard ov muscular goth chicks?
yuck. obnoxious porn reviews, obnoxious (yet funny) punk sex comix, lots ov
comix/games reviews, ridiculous madonna page, some weird naked piccie story ov
a fishnet girl apparently sold to some computer geek by her trusty mohawk man
for drugs, funny bloodlst - (lust) "how to drink blood properly" instructions,
lots ov long cheesy silly stories, most hilarious photoshop column, equally
hilarious anonymous casual sex piccie story with some tight-panted guitarist &
sleazy metal groupie chick, the story "Private" is god however. Mostly. much
girl & boy, girl & girl & boy, & even girl & girl, but strangely no boy & boy.
(?) shadow jen & kym gothic piccie thang is cool, as is the jasmine & michelle
piccie thang, which is GOD with capital letters in bold & underlined.
beautiful sensuality, sensitive, tender, & Beautiful. give us more ov that.
but i guess what is here is quite humorous & fun (if not hilarious) if you
don't take it seriously. so there. cool. love lake

Blue Blood - same issue, different reviewer
i liked the section on comic books & games, that was well done. the music
section could have been mo a lot bigger, all they did was say alot of bad thing
about misinstry & sonic youth. it should have been more expansive. i like
the artwork alot though. these little fantasy scenarious got kind of boring
after awhile. the fiction was kind of cheesy. but overall i like the safe
sex theme alot. love, SKott Kellogg

Boneyard III
c/o: Christiane Pagan
1708 A. Chesapeake St.
Charlottesville, VA 22902-5807 $2
most exciting epitapheditorial, "you don't have to dye your hair black to be a
goth (another myth shot to hell)... in-depth interview with everyone's
favourite Underworld artist extraordinaire, Timothy Renner regarding his back-
ground schooling/training, messages in his arts, & other projects... dark
poetry abounds, mixed in among an article detailing a Yule sabbat ritual -
repleat with incantations & diagrams... a wonderful review ov a cemetery -
quaker... intelligent & informative - knowledgeable musik reviews from Tim &
Chris. Boneyard's most intriguing & impressive characteristic/rfeature are
the multitude ov graveyard/cathedral photography & dark insistent poetry &
eerie violent scary prose. also - check out the cool feature spread on
Bradly Coyote 13 & his tattoos. most god. love, Lake.

Euronymous, Yule 1992, $2
Box 5334 Atlanta, GA 30307
the art within this soft, dark, hand-stiched book is incredible. strange
polymorphic feminine creatures stretch & curl about the pages, weave about the
slow delicate words, danse & writehe seductively into yr subconscious...
sensual poetics, nightmarish retellings ov Rapunzel with swirly art...i do
love this, truly... love Lake
Euronymous, number four
such lush dark art...drippy, twisting & swirrling frantically about the pages
into strange borders, scary fine-boned languid girls & gorgeous elegant
evocative prose & poetry - finely written - tales & torments ov sacred longings
for marble graveyard maidens & angels, drowning ecstacy & violent passions,
salient prose which catches hot in the throat - so brutally honest & visible,
vilolent longings... amusing honest musik reviews a most lovely illustrated
faerietale ov The Seven Ravens (& real blood on the pages too) hand-sewn.
elegant. love, Lake. (this is the October 92 issue, actually)
the newest - #4 is equally exciting - featuring the most gorgeous interview/
feature ov the dark musikal entity "Trio Nocturna" such simple elegance...

Ghastly, no III, $5
c/o: Nosferatu Productions
Box 3535 Hollywood, CA 90078
Wow. drag queen on the cover. drag queens inside. drag queens everywhere.
oh i am overwhelmed with utter love for Ghastly III. the perfect place
between Lake's irreverence & Fred's reverence. excitingly quite the large.
the best Ghastly lay-out yet. interesting but not over-crowded/elaborate/
annoying. can i say again that the cover is brilliant? very slick Jeremy
page. & i like this "i do not view television" stuff in the Reader's Poll.
really very smashing interviews. i would never have guessed from Nosferatunes
that God's Girlfriend are quite so dazzlingly spunky! & Eva & Lake, god as
usual. i like the format of the reviews section a lot too, & there's a
subtly slick use of fonts throughout. & that picture ov DOUGLAS AVERY on pg.11
well that's quite the thing. especially the "eyeless" connection. (very suave)
as is question #4 in the new reader's poll. Tara obviously drinks a lot of
milk, such endless tresses, & so many godlike leaves of paper issuing out from
her long inscribing white fingers. love, Annastassja

c/o: Jenny Soup
Box 1168-584
Studio City, ca 91604
as the blue dawnglow filtered violet through the crimson panes entangling with
the pale ethereal strains ov From Across This Grey Land III, i settled into
cascades ov velvet, with my ever-present dark-glassed cask o'red & In -
Remembrance. so stark & beautiful. In Remembrance overflows with much
elegant poetry, the mysterious illustrations exuding a heavy Victorian air,
many strange collages ov tombs & angels, & wonderful long in-depth informative

GOD. so sayeth i. love, Lake

************* TOMES ****************
*******************************************************************************

Anthony Shriek by Jessica Amanda Salmonson
read in one sitting on a dark fetid train ride from the steamy musklands ov
florida to the desolate screaming icefields ov Mass...the perfect atmosphere to
crawl within the covers ov Anthony Shriek & become each ov the beautiful
personas created within. two wondrous ghostly figures ov gothik origins meet
& love, & together traverse a strange & nightmarish landscape ov insanity,
creation & death. the prose swirls with surreal textures, & many truly
wonderful lines you'll want to keep & repeat often. i am completely in love
with both the mysterious sensuality ov Emily & the gawky elegance ov Anthony.
while Annastassja feels that the art school scenes are unrealistic & the prose
sometimes stilted & academic, i prefer to think that the negative occurrences
in class & the varying styles given for each character's section only add to
the terrible darkness & emptiness ov the netherworlds the two traverse, &
ultimately, lose themselves in. & the ending upset me so, i could not believe
it, nor could i speak for the longest ov hours. incredible. love, Lake

Dark Dance by Tanith Lee
the tale ov a lovely pale creature searching the dark passageway's ov the huge
black house, faceted with strange looming stained glass windows ov nightmarish
biblical scenes...the house ov her living ancestors - an olde tribe ov insane
vampiric creatures... best are the exploration scenes, the strange pale me
man with endless black hair - playing piano in the dark locked tower, the
incest scenes, all so beautiful & sensuous & elegant. i read them over
again & again... it is truly beautiful. i li love it. love, Lake

More Songs About Vampires, Flowers And Joan of Arc by David Keyes, $4
22-196 E.
toronto, ont. canada M4P - 1K2
a dark-haired vampire girl becomes obsessed with a Parisian underground
singer. within the blackened borders, over-spilling with the flight ov bats &
catacombed skulls tangling in night-blooming plumage, the story unfolds beneath
paris - in the dark catacombs, alleyways, cemeteries... their dark visages
appear again in the foggy paris sunsets, washed in the moonlight pouring
through cathedral panes. much moonage, alleyway voodoo, stripen hosen, &
pointy-toe witchboots. most god, in fact. love, Lake

Our Name is Melancholy...
The Complete Books of Azreal by Leilah Wendell
5219 magazine st.
new orleans, la 70115
this book is the new revised edition, with much added material & the inclusion
of the Necromantic Ritual Book & selections from Shadows in the Half-Light &
Infinite Possibilities. all together, it is just the most intriguing & poetic
thing. beautiful true tales of death/life in such lush cemeteries. one she
describes as being like a "Friedrich landscape painting". the whole book is
like Friedrich (&Beethoven). sink in & melt. i love the description of
meeting the dead 13-year-old Bernice playing barefoot in the snow. & the
poems are terribly wonderful. much of this erotically bound black & silver
illuminated tome is written in the voice of Azreal (the Angel of Death)
himself & is quite instructive & thought-provoking. an inspiring bible of
sensual death & love; it really matters not how you feel ideologically about
worshipping Azrael or whether you can see the angels that surround you or not.
love, Annastassja

The Mythology of An Abandoned City by Jon J. Muth
most exquisite tome ov nocturnal elegance... a must for an evening alone with
candlelight & red wine... dreamy mystical paintings fading in & out ov reality
& the subconsciouslll evocative poetry...statues in the rain my favourite
section ov the book... broken carousels, naked girls, angels bearing great
crosses dripping in heavy rains, a dream suicide, mysterious flocks ov birds,
dead cities... gorgeous... love, Lake
