First of all... it's not THAT short.
And it *was* very damaged.
And I didn't get *any* of the cut hair...
And my hair grows fast.
And I'm not going to C5 because I can't afford it.

may i ask a really rude question?

(after trawling through a lag of agf posts this stuck me...)

when you and penny are talking in real life, do you call each other ladybee and
penny, or rachel and jeniphir? the reason i ask is because if you met online
before you did in real life then your screen names would be your first
instinct, but being at a wedding shower and asking 'hey, ladybee, pass the
sugar' in front of a lot of not-online people would feel weird.

i know this is very intrusive, so don't answer if you don't want to.

Well, we did meet online first, & i do always think of her as Penny in
my head. As to what name i use IRL, it depends on the situation. I
don't usually use ppl's names in conversation when i'm talking *to*
them (i.e., i say, "Hi, how are you?" instead of, "Hi, Penny/Jeniphir,
how are you?"). If i'm introducing her to someone from Usenet IRL, i
say, "Penny Dreadful." If i'm introducing her to someone on the local
list (to which she is not subscribed, & from which i recently unsubbed
as well), i say, "This is Jeniphir. She posts as Penny Dreadful." To
non-netted folk, she's just "Jeniphir".

Most folk refer to me as Lady B, because i DJ under that name as well.
I always introduce myself as Rachel, tho', because i don't like to
come off like i'm pulling some cult-of-personality BS. Penny usually
addresses me as Rachel, i think, tho'.

Eggads, I'd sooner cut off a limb than cut off my hair!

Besides, the few times I've had short hair as an adult, I look like Paul
McCartney (and, altho' I have always been a huge admirer of the Beatles,
Paul's look is not something I aspire to!).

this actually made me realize that the philly.NYC goth shopping contingent
seems to either have really short or really long hair (I think Sarah's the
only exception among the women- Scott has longish spiky hair that he'll
probably tell you you'll *never* want to swim through).

me, Tiffany, Sarai, Angela, and Mari are on the long end, while ghoulie,
Jackie, and beth are short-haired girls.

above all though, it doesn't really matter what length hair we have- we're

not *short*. :)

Yeah... although Mari's isn't all that long, I don't think. Isn't it

yeah, but hers is also uber-curly, which means that if stretched out, it's

okey.. i missed all that.. :)

hmm.. the longer parts are prolly past my nippes in front and about at
back bra strap length in the back when wet and brushed straight.. but when
it dries. oh boy.. its right above bust length... like where a really low
cut collar would be. it's also uneven.. majorly. :( i really need a hair
cut/style but i can't bear to part w/ any of my hair..

side note: i've been playing with the Kaneklon whatever fake hair and
melting it into cool little things... it melts easily and sets quicky..
more info to come when i've perfected the process.. i'm using the bits i
cut off my falls to make them look layered properly...

OH NO! i meant Elana as in Elana Levin who is one of the NYC goths w/ red
hair.. Its the Kanelkon or whatever stuff but I ironed it which made it
look much more real and it drapes better and doesnt stick/mat as much..
but it's still plastic. :) (price: 3 for 4.99, or 1.99 each. which is the
standard price i think)

why one earth people thought it was real i have no idea. my hair is a
darker red. it's the jumbo braid stuff. kinky.. but it didn't come in
the large loose braid like it normally does. i was bored and ironed it w/
a papertowel over it... anything thicker is too thick for the heat to get
through.. i have NO IDEA how lux was able to iron the hair directly.. i
tried and thats how i found out it melts easily and sets easily..:) it
comes right off the iron tho if you make a boo boo (once it is set).

did you ever order from that place online? my hair shop has the equiv of
what i believe you asked about.. the silky pony tails.. they are nice, but
are only available in "normal" colors.. (price: 5.99). and they are not as
thick.. well, it's probably about as much hair/strands of hair as the
kinky stuff, but because it's not fluffy, it looks like less.

m.
thinking a big black silky pony tail would be *ok*.. but a red one would
be better.

Well, Mar, as you know, I used the same brand. I was able to iron it
directly, though. I put the iron on the very lowest possible heat
setting, and had absolutely no problems. I'm thinking it depends on the
iron.
