I'm of the latter group usually (thrifting/yard sales),
and have just discovered that I'm obsessed with
buying all the coolio Wild Pair shoes I find (which
has only been three pairs so far, but still--it's now a
collection)! Today I found a pair that are wing-tip (?
I think, with the stitched design around the toes?)
in style except no laces, with a slight heel and three
skinny buckle straps across the top of the foot.
Black, of course. Whee!
I also picked up a cute puzzle today (old magazine
cover from 1925 is pictured). I'm only obsessed
with puzzles b/c I don't go out in the heat and I
have to stay around the house to give my sick kitty
feedings every 3 hours anyways.
I also like to find Sanrio stuff used. I've only found
a ponytail holder, keychain, and vinyl pencil case.
My *MOM*, OTOH, picked up at *one* yard sale a
handmade hook/latch (?) rug, old metal wastecan,
ceramic music box, and ceramic bank, all from the
original '76 series! I took the bank and she's selling/sold
the rest off on ebay.

likes to obsess ;)
For me it used to be seel toe boots-preferably docs, preferably 20i, preferably
colored. It was an extremely expensive (and frustrating) obsession, since most
of the colored 20i steel toe boots were discontinued a few years ago. I
managed to get them in black, purple, red and navy, before I realized that I
dont have room for that many boots.
I'm also obsessed with coats-fitted, 3/4 length, different materials. And
eyeliner. And UD shadows.
In highschool I collected vintage bellbottoms. I had every color, every brand,
every style and every material. Plaid, velvet, corduroy, polyester, denim ect.
I had at LEAST 70 pairs of them, and it was definately an unhealthy obsession
=). Luckily, I've slowly been selling them on ebay.
--lodihi
Damn! Those are the exact same shoes I've been looking for *forever*, and
apparently they're too old to be on the Wild Pair website. And yours were a
a thriftstore/yardsale find (I'm guessing), so no help there on any stores
that might still stock them (not that that's your fault, just bemoaning the
fact ;-)). Grr.

I look for books on organized crime and vintage fashion, anything related to
KISS and David Bowie, vintage eyeglass frames, vintage hats and purses, and
fluffy coats.
I also have an obsession with zodiac books and Doctor Who.

> What are you obsessed with buying (be it new, or
> going on a treasure hunt for at thrift stores)?
I think I buy CDs and books more than anything else but I'm good about
selling the ones I don't want or like anymore.
Not so with shoes and boots. I love 'em. Nice ones. Especially
Fluevog. My boyfriend will make me walk blocks out of my way downtown
to avoid the Fluevog store.
I have way too many freaking boots which are very difficult to walk
in. When I see a gorgeous, well-made pair of boots I just lose all
sense of reason. I get all melty and the next thing you know I'm
forking over hundreds. Ai yah.
Sanrio. In Seattle there are many, many places to buy Sanrio stuff. I
used to work right across the street from Uwajimaya which is an Asian
supermarket/housewares/gift store with a great huge Sanrio section.
They have a little Sanrio punch card that gives you $5 off every time
you spend $50 or something and I went through a lot of those little
cards.
I was *this* close to buying a Hello Kitty wafflemaker but I didn't
really want to lug it home on the bus.
My favorite Sanrio buy is a great big army green Badtz-Maru duffel bag
which has a pocket on one end that zips off and turns into a little
backpack. I've been trying to stop buying the useless toy stuff and
stick with more utilitarian Sanrio items (duffel, wallet, backpack,
tank top, button-up sweatshirt, slippers, undies, you name it).
Runner-up to the duffel is a baby blue plush monitor cozy with a
stuffed Hello Kitty head on top. It's so obnoxiously cute.
Snake stuff. Stuff for my snake, stuff about snakes, stuff with snakes
on it. What can I say? I love snakes.
Ancient Egyptian style papyrii, statues, amulets and pretty much
everything else.
My tastes are weird and conflicting, as you can see, so I try to keep
the cutesy stuff as wearable/usable items and the other stuff
decorative.
So, there you have it.

Right now I'm obsessed with finding a comfy pair of sandals that hide most
of my toes, have a very chunky (platform) sole, and manage to not make my
feet look fatter and ALSO fit over my very high instep.
I'm not having any luck.
It would help if I got to the stores though wouldn't it??
Also, I need these by Thursday...

I'm generally after anything relating to Terry Pratchett's Discworld books.
Apart from the books themselves, that includes maps, quiz books, computer

Oooh, URL? I swear I searched on google and
it didn't come up for me.
FWIW, these shoes are kinda cheapy (maybe
all their shoes are like that, I wouldn't be surprised).
All the buckles except one are missing their tab
(but they still function alright) and the shoes are
kinda dented on the toes and noisy when you walk
(like tap shoes) and they're too lightweight. There,
does that help? ;)

Vintage slips, preferrably silk or satin bias cut slips. I also
have some interesting nylon slips and half slips, with
appliques or embroidery or lacework. Hardly anyone sees me
*wear* these things, but they're just so nice and decadent
to own.
Longline bras from the 50's.
Old hats. Dainty 40's hats with veils that I hardly ever
wear. I scour thrift stores, ebay, flea markets, vintage
shops.
Old patterns from the 30's and 40's.

>What are you obsessed with buying (be it new, or
>going on a treasure hunt for at thrift stores)?
Asian fashion. It started simply enough with my love of the movie
Raise the Red Lantern. It has since escalated to my mad collecting of
vintage/antique Japanese and Chinese fashion. Not just clothes either
but shoes, hair ornaments, bags, even scraps of cloth or embroidery.
Lately it has been hair styles as well. I sit around and try and coax
my hair into those high complicated Chinese styles. (With no luck.
*grin*) I'd hate to even think how much money have have sunk into this
stuff. I know some of my kimono are ridiculously expensive. Every now
and then I'll sell off part of my collection but I always seem to
build it back up again. I've also got a thing for Indian jewelry and
clothes..... *sigh*
Russian icons. Real, antique ones. Luckly there aren't a ton of that
sort of thing around here, which helps to keep my collecting to a
minimum.
Falcons and snakes. I've always had a thing for snakes but my
boyfriend has made it much, much worse. He has a degree in reptile
biology and as a result some very odd snakes have lived with us a
various times. Before I just had access to king snakes and such- now I
like the horrible dangerous ones like eyelash vipers and puff adders.
We also just got a kestrel named Glock. I swear that bird gets more
attention that most children. We also buy stuff like crazy for her....
Oh, why can't I be addictied to cheap stuff? *smile*

-Stompy platform shoes & boots. I was lucky enough to find a pair of
Swear shoes for $5 at the flea market a while back, and I just
recently won a pair of Hex boots with funfur trim from eBay.
-victorian oil paintings & things with portraits on them-I've only
managed to find a few that were cheap enough, but I have this *thing*
for portraiture, especially in miniature.
-monster fur anything. Pillows, coats, bags, scarves...there never
seems to be enough monster fur when I do a search on eBay.
-vintage hats & jewelry (preferably teens-20's era)..getting harder &
harder to find at thrifts & flea markets.
-Old religious art- I have a great Virgin Mary print in shades of
lavender & yellow, with a flowered sacred heart, and a really cool
Jesus glass shadowbox with paper flowers and birds, that was
supposedly made by nuns in italy. I even found a statue of Saint
Expidite at Goodwill recently for $2. I'm not even religious-I just
love the delicate colors & the detailing on these pieces.
-Bubble baths & bath products. I have to have bubble bath at all
times. And not just one or two fragrances, but at least 4 or 5 to
choose from.
-Betsey Johnson clothes. If it's thrifted, even better. I've gotten a
few really nice pieces from eBay as well.
-old incense burners. I always bid on the Vantines ones on eBay & get
outbid every time.
That's about all I can think of atm....

Knotty, dark in places, and cleverly constructed, but diffuse and

hmm, cow print. Especially cowprint accessories. Not clothing, but bags,
cushions, my cat is cow-print, I have a cow toasted sandwich maker. (I
lovelovelove my toastie-cow)
Asian brocade and Asian stuff. This is still in its infancy but I just
looked around the room (not at all decorated to any kind of theme) and
counted 8 different brocades. My wardrobe is the same. I will buy anything
brocade if it fits. (sometimes even if it doesn't, just for the fabric)
Hair stuff. Interesting, dangly or sparkly hair accessories. I actually wear
some of these unlike my other obsession,
interesting necklaces. I often buy them but never get around to wearing them
very much.
Plum lipliners and L'Oreal Plumage lipstick. It's discontinued so I buy it
whenever I can as it's the perfect colour to complement my fringe.
Kitchen herbs. I'm also good at killing them but I LOVE buying herb plants.
This is a frequently indulged obsession :(
Piercings. I've stabilised at 18 but have entertained notions of twice as
many again. Writing my thesis has allowed me to break this obsession as I'm
not getting anymore until the stress is over and I can heal stuff again.
Cat toys. I have a new kitten who plays with anything circular or twitchy or
crinkly or flat or soft or that's a bag. So petshops are interesting places
now as I try to find the best toy I can.
Knives. I have two good Global knives and I want the whole set. There's only
about another 30 different knives to collect...
silver pillboxes.. really I think it's more a fetish for little things that
are cleverly made or somehow tricky.
hmm.. that's enough I think...

*plastic aborigines - i only have one so far from the 60s,i saw one made of

*shoes - even if i never wear them i like to buy shoes which are madd..i got
my pointy toed shoes
http://members.dingoblue.net.au/~laeta/archive/pointy.jpg from an op shop
and i also picked up a pair of brown 70s shoes with a 1" platform, i wear

*jesus and sacred heart stuff - im not religious but i like all the nice old

>What are you obsessed with buying (be it new, or
>going on a treasure hunt for at thrift stores)?
>
I don't really buy things at thrift stores and the like
because the thrift gods hate me and everything I find that I like is
in a size I haven't been able to fit into since middle school. So
mostly I buy things new, usually at a discount, or I find them on
Ebay.
-Shoes and boots. I have a lot, but I always want more. Even
if I rarely wear them. Usually elaborate and ubergothy and with heels,
preferably no platform.
-Hats. Again, I rarely wear them because I rarely have things
to go with them, but I am obsessed.
-Fabric. I have a whole steamer trunk filled to bursting with
fabric that I have yet to use.
-Snake and spider things. This is more of an affinity than an
obsession, but I've got plenty of things with these motifs.

** Little toy TVs **
Especially if they are the primitive View-Master type, with the
little hole you look in, and see 6 different bitty views of the
Grand Canyon or something. But I will take nearly any tiny TV
if it is attractive enough to me.
My favorite so far is the S&P TV set. You turn the knob on the
set, and a pair of salt and pepper shakers rise out of the top.
I also spent more on this one than all the others combined, but
that's the nature of obsession. I *had* to have it.
All tiny TVs go on the St. Clare shrine in the living room. She
is the patron saint of television. I have a plaque of St. Clare
holding a scroll that reads, "Place your mind before the mirror
of eternity". Old burned-out TV tubes take the place of candles
on the shrine, and soon I will have glow-in-the-dark St. Clares
to stand amongst the little TV sets:

** Dolls **
These have to be a particular kind of cheap plastic, classic looking
baby dolls, and they *have* to be thrift, because I cut them apart
and spray-paint them and stuff, and give them new identities. I've
talked about this before so I won't go into detail.
There are other things, like slips, boots, vintage dresses, fedoras,
and so on, but I will *always* look for dolls and TVs if I am shopping
a thrift store or rummage sale.

I think everyone has heard about my quest for the perfect cargo skirt by
now, but I got a pretty good one the other week in a second hand shop
where I was doing a little helping out.
I have discovered the thrifter's dream. Because I am staff, I get a good
rate of exchange when swapping my unwanted gothwear for more practical
black summer clothes :) Oh, OK, & for a huge frock.
I now have more space in my chest of drawers & have ruthlessly got rid
of almost everything that is too tight, small or impractical :)
Apart from the skirt:
1) little strappy tops. I cannot have too many in hot weather, & they
are fun to decorate.
2) Silk shirts for Cavalorn. I've bought three or four this summer, all
for less than £2 UK.
3) Two-tone fabric things. I can't resist shimmery, shiny things.
4) Funfur jackets. I must stop doing that.
5) Genuine Victorian items hopelessly underpriced. I must do that more
often.
And new things:
1) New Rock boots. I have three pairs. I want more.
2) Urban Decay liquid liners. I have nine, I think.
3) LUSH products. Surely I don't need more bath stuff?

After hitting Religious Sex on St. Mark's, I've become obsessed with
petticoats and corsets together. Very cute. However, I was broke,
couldn't convince the boy to drop $100+ on it, and am now back in
Vermont for the rest of the summer. Buu.... I might hit their site.
Kogal magazines from Japan. Started getting them for my sister,
started reading them and love the hairstyles in them. Wonder if
they'd look o.k. in black as opposed to the
asian-dark-then-bleached-to-hell hair color all the girls in them
have. Might as well as give it a shot.
Shitajiki, also known as pencil boards. Easiest and most visiable
anime collection.
Hello Kitty goods. I think this has already been discussed. It's
like crack, plain and simple.
Also, right now, I'm looking for a long, black, fitted, heavy weight
coat for fall and winter. I'm considering moving to solely skirts and
dresses and I want something that's going to help protect my legs.
Same goes for fun legwarmers.
Platform boots. I really shouldn't. I'm already friggin' 6'.
Needless to say, I have a shopping addiction. I found a giant wooden
Buddha at Pearl River Mart yesterday. I wanted to take him home with
me. I think I'm gonna Buddha out my apartment. Smiling Buddha always
puts me in a good mood.
And this is really cool because it's, well, free! There is this guy at my
boyfriend's work that is *always* giving him skulls (goat skulls, racoon
skulls, lil ones that i don't know what they are skulls, etc.), we don't know
why he is so generous, they barely know each other. Whatever the reason, he
is. So, we now have all of these to go with all of the other's we had before
it was raining skulls.

I am obsessed with hunting down my favorite shade of lippy (which as far as
I can tell has been discontinued in all brands that made it) and buying 2 or
3 at a time, regardless of how many I already have. This is pretty silly, as
my tastes may change before I use them all, but what can you do. - the lippy
shade btw (just in case anyone knows where i can get more) is a deep violet
red (like wet'n'wild's fantasy makers (from 3 years ago) black-red, I've
also found it in Prestige Studio Makeup's "Flirt" and Sinful Colors'
"Naughty Nature" - but of course my local stores have all stopped carrying
the latter two brands)
I am more recently also obsessed with little red rhinestones. I have a
little black velvet collar with them all over it. I also found this kickass
little red shirt with a black spiderweb & spider - the spiderweb has 9
little red rhinestones on it at various places, and a black tank top with
two extra straps (supposed to look like bra straps that are hanging out)
with little red rhinestones on them (both the shirts were at le chateau -
not displayed on their site tho' - maybe they will be once they finish the
overhaul - www.le-chateau.com )
and (according to by bf) boots. I have a pair of heeled leather knee high
laceups (no zippers!) that I bought at Aldo a couple years back. I have a
short pair that laceup and have a buckle at the top (they squeek now . . .
anyone know how to get rid of that?) another short pair that are
semi-platform, a pair of black suede granny boots with a little swirly
design embroidered on them and I just recently found a really awesome pair
of black platform suede boots that come to about mid-calf and have a rose
embroidered (in black) on them (woo hoo!). and I'm still looking for more
boots!

I've heard applying some kind of oil might
help (for non-leather, anyways). I had some
that I used to have to apply vegie or mineral oil
dabbed on a paper towel to the tongue in order

would eventually start up again. The only other
option I know of is to wear the squeaky shoes to

Apart from spending tons of money on anime itself, I love clothes with
definite Asian influence, Japanese school uniform-style things, shirts with
mandarin collars... I once found a black cheongsam for 10 bucks in a local
thrift shop.
I can't resist a big skirt, either. I'm in the process of making a few
petticoats to poof out all my drapy skirts.
I also have a very un-pc love of fur lately. I got a fake fur throw blanket
for going back-to-school, dormroom chic, and was given a black velvet jacket
with a mink collar and 3/4 length sleeves. I got a fox muff from the
antique store I work at, the kind that has the 'details' still preserved on
it.. kind of iffy if that is something that a boarding school would be ok
with. Might leave it behind to avoid conflict with my future roomie.
I'm basically going for the dark schoolgirl look this year, making fun of my
prep school's sense of fashion, I suppose. I've purchased quite a few dress
shirts and sweaters lately. Knee-socks, pleated skirts, things like that.
I can't pass up a great pleated skirt, ever.
Obsession? Well, no specific item, but I always seem to need several bags
to carry my loot out of the store...
