i'm tired and crashing off an 8 hour sugar high. forgive me.
i was looking for fabric paint today for use on cotton t-shirt. they
pretty much seem to just be acrylic paint repackaged and marked up.
does anyone have experience or knowledge on this - so, could i use the
acrylic paints i already have to paint on a tee, or should i buy paints
specifically labeled for fabric?
thanks "peeps"

I think the so-called fabric paint is diluted a bit so it will "sink in" to
the fibers instead of just sitting on top of them. I know there is some type
of product that used to be available in the U.S. that you added to regular
acrylic paint to make it better for fabric painting. Unfortunately, I don't
remember what that product was called but maybe you could call around to
local craft supply shops and see if they know what it is.

Acrylic paints will work, as is, on fabrics, but it tends to be stiff
and feel 'crunchy'. I think a lot of cheap fabric paints are just
watered down acrylics because they do the exact same thing.
You can buy fabric medium for acrylic paint. It's supposed to let you
use acrylics and still keep the fabric soft and flexible. I'm told
there are several sources, but the only one I know of is Golden.
I use their artist's acylics and mediums and so far as I am concerned
they are the best. Look for the fabric medium under 'mediums', or
just type "fabric medium" into the search box.
If you decide you want honest to goodness fabric paint, look at Dharma
Trading,
lots and lots of options there. If you need help figuring stuff out,
their customer service people are excellent.
Another alternative is airbrush textile paint. It can be a little
tricky to use until you get the hang of it, but it can be used with a
brush and gives marvelous results once you've got it down.
If you need any help figuring any of this out, just drop me an email.
