Several years ago, James Whitaker wrote a book on Charles and Diana -
and part of that book included the text of a taped conversation between
Charles and Diana in November 1992 at Highgrove -- major problem -the
tape was a fake - Charles and Diana were not at Highgrove on the day the tape
was said to be made. It was proved to be a fake. Whitaker lost a lot of
credibility - not that he ever had a lot of credibility since he did and does
write for the Mirror. Another claim he made was that Stephen Barry,
Charles' former butler, said Charles spent the night with Camilla
- the night before the wedding.
But when did Barry tell him this -- Barry had been dead for several years.
Moreover, anyone who has read Stephen Barry's book, Royal Service,
will find nothing of the sort.
Barry served for 12 years as Charles' personal valet - and resigned
shortly after Charles' marriage.
On pages 183-84 - he talks about Charles - and Camilla, et al.
He says the gossip what that Charles was strongly influenced "in his
choice of girl friends, by two married women, Lady Tryon .... and Mrs.
Camilla Parker Bowles, the wife of a calvary officer. Both women are wives of
two of his closest friends. And in the case of Kanga, the speculation was that there was more than a simple and straightforward friendship involved.
The Prince is simply not the type of man to dally with married women, and
most certainly not with women who are married to his friends."
Barry goes on to say that there were three or four women (Before Diana)
who had any real influence: the queen, the queen mother, Mabel ANderson
(his former nanny) and Lady Susan Hussey.

That is basically all there is in Mrs. CPB -

He also discussed the royal train incident -- and said so no woman was on
board that night - he would have known since he was also on the train,
along with 2 of Charles' protection officers. Barry was also present
during the honeymoon cruise --
during her pregnancy "she had morning sickness very badly - and not only
in the mornings. She often felt low and he was very caring of her."

Stephen Barry was the guy who resigned because he couldn't get along with Diana? Or did he leave his 12 year employment because Diana didn't want him
around her sons? He died of AIDS, right? Didn't he sign a document NOT to write a book about what he learned as an employee of the Royal Family? How did
he get by with writing one?

Didn't he stay around until after Harry was born?

Well, at least one of them was a very good friend. I remember hearing the joke about Andrew PB---"He laid down his wife for his country". LOL However, I
have come to understand that APB didn't mind that Charles was having fun and games with Camilla until Charles went public in his TV interview. A good
friend, that Andrew!

I guess Stephen was a little mistaken about this part since Charles did dally with Andrew PB's wife. I guess Stephen should have talked with Andrew PB
and he could have learned the meaning of true friendship. ;o)

Diana was blamed for that, wasn't she? Wasn't he kept on Charles'
payroll for life? I believe it is in the Diana transcripts that she
says that Charles replied, in a question as to how he had girlfriends -
something like - he sticks to married women - a lot less trouble, and
they understand the rules of the game.

Stephen Barry handed in his resignation in October 1991, and remained
on the job for a further six months to train his successor. He left to
work and learn PR for Turnbull & Asser. He left on 4/1/82 before William
was born. Presumably, he would have signed a confidentiality agreement -
ROyal Service was published in 1983, and published in the USA, not the UK.
Charles loaned him an estate car until he got one of his own after leaving
the Palace -- but Barry was not on the Prince's payroll after that --
in fact, the Prince was betrayed by Barry's book, betrayal of confidence,
but there is nothing salacious about the book.
