Barbara looked very preturbed when it was announced, but Ms. Viera will
appear in the buff in the February issue of Playboy. So Playboy readers must
watch "The View, right? Somehow this fact seems odder to me than a former
60 Minutes anchor appearing in the nude. I don't know--I'll admit I'm aging
rapidly and might be psychologically out of touch, but I don't get it. Maybe
young guys like having their balls busted on morning television five days a
week.

What is it with these middle-aged women who suddenly find the need to remove
their clothes in public? Is this the equivalent of mid-life crisis males who
cavort around with women young enough to be their daughters? How pathetic!

sigh. Meredith is obsessed with informing everyone about her body. I swear,
I couldn't have seen more than 5 of those shows, only the first segment or
so, yet even I've noticed she's always on about the fact that she doesn't
wear knickers, always trying to show how open she is, how in touch with her
body, or something, talking about some body part of hers. She thinks she's
being provocative or "cool" or something, but she's just disgusting.

************************************************

For someone who has achieved the success she has, she comes across as terribly
insecure. I don't watch the show often, and when I do watch it, usually I catch
only a few minutes of it. I did see it a few weeks ago, when Meredith was
talking about going to the parent-teacher night at her child's school, which is
in Westchester County, NY (I think). Anyway, I gather that the parents were
treated like students for part of the time, and actually had to answer some
math questions, etc. So, Meredith was bragging on the show about how well she
answered the questions and how smart she is. It wouldn't have been so bad if
she had just mentioned it and shut up, but she went on and on and on. I was
thinking, "OK, Meredith, are you trying to convince yourself or us?"

Didn't I read somewhere (probably here) that Daryl Hannah is also going to

That one is already on newsstands and she doesn't look that bad ....
for a woman her age. :-)

Desparation is having Chynna from the WWF (Joanie Laurer) appear nude
in Playboy. TWICE!!!!! Ugh! I almost cancelled my
subscription after that.

There is a link to Daryl Hannah's Playboy pictures here. You have to go to the

Apparently I'm alone on this, but I'm looking forward to seeing these pics.
I've always liked Meredith, perhaps because I only really know her from 60
Minutes and 'Millionaire.' I think she's a sexy mature woman and hopefully this
will take the stigma of broadcast journalists posing in the buff. Today
Meredith Viera, tomorrow, Rudi Bakhtiar?

I'm not surprised. MV is a really strange woman who has always looked like she
works hard to be this sexual, sexy 50 year old. It's really pathetic, b/c she's
anything but attractive. She's phony, like all the other bitches on that show.
Worst of all, she has 3 kids and they are all young. This is a pathetic bid for
attention.

Yep. ITA with all of the above. Also, she tries to come off like she can do
anything Madonna does. A month or so ago she kissed one of the guests hosts on
the show. Kissed her right on the mouth and it was a real stomach-turner. NOt
b/c it was 2 women, but b/c MV looked so desperate and utterly foolish.

I predict within the next year or two her marriage will fall apart, too. And
she'll have the lucky position of being the View group's single mom, blah blah
blah. Then it'll been one story after another about her getting back on the
dating scene, and that will lead to sex talk which is what she wants anyway.
Can't stand her.

I read on the imdb that Meredith was asked to pose in playboy some time ago but
she turned it down. I remember at one of the award shows she talked about how
she was a guest star on a soap opera and she played the part of hooker. She
then went on to say because of that role, she now worked as a call girl 3 times
a week. No one in the audience laughed. I thought her behavior was sorta odd
considering her children were in the audience.

30 years ago you would have attacked these women for being immoral.
that argument didn't really work so now you use words such as
'desperate' or 'degrading. but the fact is that you're just being

Some women should pose for Playboy, others should stick to serious
journalism. This sets back the feminist movement 200 years. What if
Sam Donaldson decided to pose for Playgirl? What would people say
then? I prefer the journalists I watch (and I USE THAT TERM LOOSELY
WHEN DISCUSSING THOSE "VIEW" WOMEN), female or male, to keep their
clothes on. How can you respect her as a journalist when you say
"Never mind about Iraq or Kobe Bryant, I've seen her titties and her
muffin!"

She's certainly proud of her body and is a bit of an exhibitionist.
Back when she was on 60 Minutes, she created another scandal
by posing on some mag. She had a micro mini on with 6 inch stilletto heels.
Caused quite a stir and the people over at 60 Minutes were not amused.
This posing nude for Playboy is right up her ally.

I couldn't agree more with what you wrote! When a middle-aged woman

"degrading herself". ???

Anyhow, am I the only person who noticed Meredith's rather obvious eye

i keep seeing these threads about meredith and playboy. is it really true!? i
can hardly believe a respectable (to some) female journalist/tv personality of
any age would do something so tacky and unnecessary. she's not some young
wannabe starlet nor is she an approaching (or already there) middle-age faded
actress and/or singer trying to gain attention or some new fans. and seriously,
when was the last time a playboy spread actually helped someone's career?

I seriously doubt that.  Her husband, who she's been with for at least 20 years or more, has had to deal with multiple schlerosis since his 20's (before they married), is considered legally blind due to that disease, and has had two colon cancer surgeries. He is somewhat disabled.  Meredith has pretty much supported the family financially for a long time.  He used to be senior news producer for Dan Rather, and then a writer, but I don't think he's earned much money in quite some time.

She's not stupid at all--she's quite bright, and she's sacrificed a lot to take care of her family.  Compared to a lot of ditzy women out there--she's pretty grounded.  I don't know why she's chosen to do Playboy, but I'm sure she will reveal why at some point, as she's been quite open and forthright about her life.

I have no clue as to how smart she is, but I can tell you that she is not
phony. She is very real and very nice, and when one of the contestants on
"Millionaire" got sick from a case of nerves, she was very compassionate while
others were getting antsy.

This is very good news indeed. She is an older babe. I like that. Get away
from the fake breast enhanced women of todays playboy which at times makes me
sick. She has a beautiful face and I would put her up there with Halle Berry.
I passed her in a hall at a hotel downtown Baltimore back in 1991 and wow I
feel in love. I'm telling you she was beautiful and well built. Give me her in
playboy anyday. Better than Carnie Wilson or Joanie Lauer.

I think there's plenty of newsbabe fans who can't wait. Most Hollywood sex
symbols are so tarted up now that its far most desirable to see a woman who's
attractive but not trying so damn hard all the time.

Even worse was when she thought she could sing and did a number from
Cabaret.....OMG it was hideous...I was actually embarassed for her. She
rehearsed and rehearsed for weeks, then came the big recital and was all
made up like someone from the actual show and could not sing to save her
freakin' life. It was just dreadful. Then, of course, everyone told her
she was wonderful. They had Simon from AI on a couple of days later and
showed him the clip and he said 'no comment' ... which I thought again was
pathetic. He has no problem humiliating and squashing the dreams of kids,
but not a 50-something rich celebrity who asked for his opinion.

It's called an opinion. He's entitled to his - one which I agree with,

It's not the older woman thing that disturbs me. It's that it's Meredith,
who thinks she's hot stuff, that makes me cringe. Another older woman,
maybe, but when I think of sexy, not-young women, I don't put Meredith
Vieira in that group.

I couldn't agree more with what you wrote! When a middle-aged woman
poses nude, it's "empowering"; when a young woman poses nude, she's
"degrading herself". ???

Anyhow, am I the only person who noticed Meredith's rather obvious eye
lift when she started on the View? She sure looked different from her
60 Minutes gig.

I bet all of you that Star Jones will pose for Playboy after she gets
her gastric bypass surgery. >>

I don't think she will get the surgery. That would mean that Star would have to
admit that she has an eating disorder and that her weight is a serious issue.
Star will NEVER admit that anything is wrong with her. She'd rather sit there
with her huge cosmetic-soaked face, her huge thighs, and her huge ego and
pretend that she's sexy just the way she is.

i highly doubt it is a nude photo shoot. no one said that... typical of Viera's

I'd give damn good money to see that - sorry - I would kill to see

mind seeing Ann Curry between those pages either - She has a damn good

Is Ann Curry really close to 50? She comes across as very anxious and nervous
on the show. For all my complaints about Katie Couric, at least she has more
composure than Ann. Ann needs a tranquilizer, or maybe she just needs to drink
less coffee.

They're probably use to it.
