Former "Starsky & Hutch" star David Soul is now living in a "tiny
bedsit in a run-down area of London," according to Mr. Murdoch's
British tabloid The Sun:
http://www.thesun.co.uk/article/0,,2-2004032376,00.html

Soul's "cramped living space barely holds a double bed, and he has a
cooker a few feet away in the same room," according to Sun reporters
Mike Sullivan and Clodagh Hartley.

The Sun notes that Soul, 60, sold his stake in "Starsky & Hutch" for
$100,000 before it became a hit -- thereby losing millions of dollars
in reruns and future film rights to the series.
http://us.imdb.com/name/nm0815800/

Soul was a crime victim last week, according to The Sun, when a
burglar broke into his studio, located in the Paddington section of
West London, and stole his "wallet and a few valuables."

"The thief booted the flimsy front door off its hinges to break in,"
according to The Sun. Police believe a local junkie is responsible.

"I had quite a shock to see David Soul living here," a neighbor told
The Sun. "These rooms are quite basic and cramped. The area is not
particularly nice. There is a lot of crime and you have got to look
over your shoulder all the time."

Too bad. Maybe it's karma. His career was over when the wife-beating
became public knowledge. And what was the name of that song he sang that
was so incredibly popular? Seems he'd be getting some residuals or
something from it. Guess he was a one-hit wonder.

Weren't there rumors years ago that he was into necrophilia? Or am I totally
imagining that?

I never heard about the wife beating, but I don't think the residuals from
Starsky would sustain anyone, they get very little, and I haven't seen the show
in syndication. Also, he is probably living the way a majority of people there
live. It always could be worse.

Don't Give Up On US, Baby.

In order to generate royalties, the song would still have to be getting
airplay. Three bar snippets on "One hit wonders of the 70's" and
suchlike don't count.

Also, he would have signed his deal for the series before the 1980
Actors Strike that resulted in future contracts that guaranteed income
from VHS, cable, etc.

Suddenly I have this very nasty picture in my head of David Soul getting
together with the corpse of Mae West. Yuck.

The decomposition's offset by the rigor mortis.

Ask the Green River Killer. He'd go back and "revisit" the women's corpses.
It is unbelievable what some humans are capable of. (Sister Anthony would
disapprove because I just ended that sentence with a preposition but I can't
think of another way to say it right now.) It's past my bedtime. Night!

I remember hearing about him hitting his wife. Marta something, wasn't
it? And we had a local station showing Starsky and Hutch reruns until a
few months ago. With the movie remake (it pains me to type that) there
may be an increase of interest in the original series.

Wouldn't he get some money from that movie he made, "Salem's Lot?" I
just bought the dvd a few months ago.

Thats why you have to get `em while they're fresh!

As an interesting side note, according to an instructor of mine back
in college, ancient Egyptians would hold onto their deceased daughters
until they were "ripe" to keep the guys who were to mummify them from
having a go before the body was interred.

It was a HUGE scandal back in the 1970's (?) when he was arrested for
wife beating. I can't remember if it was a gf or his wife (they called
it all "wife beating" back then before spousal abuse became the
fashionable term.) HB said that David was doing quite well in London
theatre and BBC productions since moving to the UK.

Wasn't it Bobby Sherman that said he would't work with David anymore
because of the abuse charges? (or was it Paul Michael Glasser?)

It was his wife, Patti Carnall Sherman Soul.

It was Bobby - Patti was his ex-wife. They had started dating when she
was a teenager and remained friendly after the divorce.

No, that's David McCallum, who rose to fame as Illya Kuryakin in
"The Man from U.N.C.L.E." David Soul was in "Starsky and Hutch."

So you wouldn't have married a man who'd previously hit you so that you fled to
a woman's shelter? I'm glad to know you aren't that incredibly stupid, Kathy.
I'd be incredulous if you'd been idiotic enough to marry an abuser.

Linda, I seem to recall that David lost a huge TV series (becauser of
the abuse charges) that producers were considering for him to star in,
it eventually went to another actor, help!! I am trying to rack my brain
here.......was it CHiPS?
