In this book, she mentions that Marilyn
apparently had a chin implant of some sort
as well as a nose job in 1962. The quote is
"la belle Monroe's breasts may have had a
surgical je ne sais quoi (i don't know what)
by virtue of sponge breast implants as well as
liquid silicone injections. In fact, she was complaining
about infections shortly before her death, according
to a surgeon's widow."
Here's a German website talking about Marilyn
and silicone with some photos.

In only we could get Annette Funicello to
admit to her implants preceding her MS
and Liz Taylor to come out about her
probably injections.
Here's the info on Kron's book.
The complete book of facial
cosmetic surgery-- enlightening,
practical, and personal-- from the
most respected expert in the field
Lift
Wanting, Fearing, Weighing--and Having--a Face-Lift
Joan Kron
Celebrity face-fixes get the
headlines, but Ms. (or Mr.)
America--with an income of $50,000
or less--has become the real consumer. Cosmetic
procedures of every type are popular, but even the
simplest nips and tucks are still options as
frightening and confusing as they are alluring.
Veteran reporter Joan Kron uses what
she learned both through her own face-lift and
in her years of covering cosmetic surgery to arm the
potential client with the whole story. Lift covers
the technical aspects, but also the psychology of
appearance and cultural history--from Elizabeth I's
white-enameled wrinkles to Hollywood's hush-hush
face peel. A sensitive overview as well as a
nuts-and-bolts primer, Lift brims with real-life stories
and interviews with doctors and sociologists, that
demystify just what a lift can and cannot accomplish. Wanting
one is between you and your mirror; having one is a
complex decision that calls for this book as a companion.

right on. like dozens of thousands of less famous women.
sally kirkland just had her last set of implants removed.
loretta lynn came out last year (right before her dear
friend, tammy wynette died from complications from her
implants. loretta replaced her ruptured silicone with saline ~
as most doctors recommend. most often, tho, the women
end up with more surgeries. it's devastating to their lives.
remember anna nicole smith last year when hers got infected
so badly?

You're obviously on some sort of rampage about implants, but I've
*never* heard them implicated in Tammy's death. She had numerous health
problems over the years, but none of them sounded like the problems
usually connected to implants. If she *did* have them and they were a
part of her problem, I'm sure she would have had them taken out before
they caused her death. Tammy had always been pretty upfront about her
health troubles and she would have talked about it if implants were her
problem.

Is there nothing sacred. I watched Annette's Mousketeer sweater grow from
nubbins to grapefruit before there was any information about implants.
early breast enlargement was done with injections and not implants, and,
this came AFTER Annette had grown to full blown yummy.
Oh well, it doesn't matter I don't suppose. I don't have wet dreams
anymore so I never get to see Annette. I sure wish she hadn't gotten sick
but, I watched her with intent interest every day she was on the mouse
show and I believe those puppies came naturally. I don't think they
caused her any sickness.
Of course they didn't. I think the original poster has a bug up her ass
about implants in general and thinks they're responsible for every
injury and illness to befall humanity.

she's apparently under some gag order and
not allowed to discuss it. however, i have
information that she did get early implants
and now has ms ~ like thousands of other
implanted women

no bug, just high concern for the million plus
women with disintegrating implants in their bodies.
when our immune systems are overworked such
as when implants rupture ~ 95% by 20 years (lancet
study, 11/22/97) ~ many if not most women do
get ill with a variety of immune related ailments.
please don't confuse manufacturer sponsored
pr campaigns with the real problems that befall
implanted women.
I'm certainly not confused, and I haven't had any problems with mine.
Julie
I'm very confused here. I've read two posts in the Usenet that claim
that Annette Funicello *actually* got breast reduction. One says that
in an interview, Annette said that she was an early bloomer and was
so embarassed that she taped her chest down (which accounts for
why she appeared to suddenly blossom after the tapes were removed).
Can someone clarify this? Breast reduction is a much different surgery
than breast augmentation. And how would breast reduction surgery
be the cause of MS?
Well no. The original silicone *injections* were pretty nasty technology.
And when silicone leaks into the body it can cause problems if the
immune system is sensitive to it. But the saline implants (and everyone
I know that has breast enlargement has saline) are pretty darn safe.
And just because people get sick doesn't mean you can blame it on
the implants. After all, people get sick, and you have to subtract apriori
probability from your statistics. If the same percentage of people get
sick with the same things in both the implant and the non implant group,
then regardless of whether or not the implant group blames their implants,
the statistical relationship between disease and implants is still logically
nil.
Thank you.
In America there are a very large number of women who have implants.
Its pretty common. But people don't like to talk about it and this is pretty
unfair. It seems to be one of those nasty double standards. On the other
hand if it were breast reduction, people are open and upfront about it.
