He was bi...
In article <922772b5.0308...@posting.google.com>,
Price was as gay as they come.
Rick
In her biography of her father Price's daughter, who is ajournalist and
an out Lesbian, and was very open to the idea that her father was gay, said
that as much a she researched it, that she could never find proof that would
stand up that Vincent was gay. First dispelled were the rumors that his
relationship with his long time friend and co-owner of an LA art Gallery,
George MacCready was more than a friendship. From there, she tried to
follow every story and rumor about her father. There would be one story that
he was in a gay bar, but upon further research it would turn out that he was
stopping by to visit a friend, and then would leave and go home alone. Or
someone remembered Vincent kissing someone on the lips, but later it would
turn out to be just a friendly show business kiss. Finally in frustration,
she decided that definitive proof just wasn't out there, and that the
stories about her father being gay were so ephemeral, that whatever truth in
them was more urban legend than anything else, and that since she couldn't
prove that he'd ever even had sex with another man, she was she was forced
to conclude, that her father was probably straight.

Cute.

He's dead, so ... does that make him "flew"?
Bill "I'll never get the hang of this new slang"
Heh. No need, Bill. It was a punny take on Vincent's role as "The
Fly".
Speaking as one who knew him personally and was involved with
the same circle of friends (Paul Lynde, Buck Henry, Michael Coyte
et al), I can tell you definitively the man was gayer than a clutch
purse on Tony night.
Rick
Ewww! Imagine wanting to know about your Dad's sex life LOL!

"This calls for a very special blend of psychology and extreme violence." -
Vyvyan, "The Young Ones"
I think this belongs in, "The man is dead, does it really matter" file.
Yes there were rumours, but nothing was ever confirmed, and no male has ever
come forward to say that Vincent and he were lovers. A non-celeb friend of
mine had the pleasure of dining with Vincent and Coral and some other
friends in the mid-80's at their home. Vincent, who was a wonderful gourmet
chef, prepared the entire exquisite meal himself. He was also the essence
of the word GENTLEman, and loved to make fun of his own image as a
horror-meister. My friend also said that he and Coral seemed to be
genuinely in love and were very affectionate with each other, almost like
newlyweds.
If he did have any bisexual affairs, he was entirely discreet, and obviously
preferred the company of women.
Oh brother. Good to see denial is still very much alive and well
in Hollywood.... I especially loved the "nothing was ever confirmed"
bit. Utterly clueless.
Anyone looking for documentation of Price's sexual preference need
only pick up a copy of "Behind the Screen" by William J. Mann.

Reminds me of the time when I was 16 and found condoms in the glove box of
my divorced Dad's car. Oh, the visions THAT conjured up!
Ewwww is right! Gloria
I thought he was only married three times and Victoria was from the second
marriage.
Pretty fly for a white guy...

I can beat you twice on this one... Imagine walking in on your parents when
you were 15. Then, 2 years later walking in on your mother doing something
not so gracious with the next door neighbor's husband. It's a miracle I
don't have hangups about sex. :)
Wow....so did your dad ever find out?

Well unless you had sex with the guy, you can't confirm if was gay, straight or
bi either. He admitted to his daughter that he had a couple flings with
men...that means he probably was bisexual.
But I will have to check out that book you mentioned...it sounds juicy.
On the other hand you did change your name to Woodie69... Hmmmm...
I have no definitive proof that my mother ever had sex - I'm forced to
conclude that I'm probably Jesus...

We must be cousins or something since I've long maintained that my
siblings and I are products of the immaculate conception.

Cool! If you can turn water into wine, come sit next to me. But only if you
can turn it into red wine, please.

Will a fine merlot work?
Kaiju
Mmmm...mmmmerlot. Add a crusty loaf of bread and some nice cheese, and we've
reached nirvana.
A 30 year ruby port would be better, IMO.

May I recommend a ciabata with a goat gouda? A few ripe tomatoes and basil
leaves will complement nicely. And then some good fruit.

As for Vincent Price, the only thing out of the ordinary I ever heard
about him until this thread (and the following just may start another
thread) was in the biography of Edward D. Wood.
Wood was a transvestite. To try to impress people, he'd tell of all
the parties he was invited to where everyone would dress up in women's
clothing. He said that all the well known drags in Hollywood would
attend, like Vincent Price and Jack Benny.
It's only hearsay, but still interesting.
P.S. Regarding Jack Benny, this isn't the only reference to
allegations of out of the ordinary behavior on his part. In his
autobiography, Mel Blanc mentions persistent rumors in Hollywood that
Jack Benny was gay. Mel said one of the people who most often
repeated such rumors was Jack himself, who thought the notion was
hilarious (though it occurred to me that it also could have been a
case of Jack "protesting too much")
P.P.S. Mel also said, in spite of wearing women's clothes on several
occasion and giving other males a big kiss on the mouth, that Bugs
Bunny was definitely not gay. He didn't say anything about the Goofy
Gophers.
Not to my knowledge. I was too busy trying to stay clear of him because he
had a horrible temper and I usually got the brunt of it. Kinda sucks being
the oldest. Besides, what's the best way to make a mother feel guilty?
Take it out on her favorite.
Sounds like a real charmer, Woodie.
I'm sorry you had to go through that....nobody has the right to verbally or
physically abuse anyone, especially a kid.
I totally agree with you. I could never figure out what it was that *I* did
to incite such hatred in someone that I thought the world of. My mother
wanted to leave while I was still in high school, but I was like, "oh no you
don't, I'm not leaving my boyfriend and friends behind." Right after
graduation she packed us up and off we went.
Turns out it wasn't me (surprise) but my mother. Oh, she got her share too,
but me being so damned stubborn and trying to deflect it off my mom I got
the brunt of it. I don't hold it against her, which is probably ironic
within itself, I just feel bad that she couldn't tell me why sooner. Oh
well, if life was perfect all the time it would be boring as hell. :)
