Topping the list is the 1980 assassination of rock legend John Lennon,
followed by the child molestation accusations against Michael Jackson, the
1969 Altamont concert in which a fan was killed during the show, Kurt
Cobain's suicide and Marvin Gaye's murder.
The five-part special will feature exclusive new interviews with artists
like Barenaked Ladies, Boy George, Chuck D, Marianne Faithfull, Talking
Heads' Chris Frantz and Tina Weymouth, Sammy Hagar, Moby, members of the
Spice Girls, guitarist Steve Vai and Dee Dee Ramone. It's hosted by Sugar

The video has been played a few times on TV. In it Bjork is leaving a
Japanese airport when a reporter comes up to her to ask a question.
She then just attacks the reporter. It is really weird. She just
started hitting the reporter. I don't remember ever hearing a reason
for the attack.

The reporter was asking questions about Bjork's disabled son. Bjork was
trying to ignore her, the reporter kept asking, finally Bjork freaked and
started pummeling her. I think it was just built-up anger towards the

I thought the most awful/shocking thing I've ever seen (very disburbing as a
child) was when the guy got stabbed to death by the Hells Angel (so called
security) at the Rollling Stones Gimme Shelter concert at the Altamont speedway
in 69.
Perhaps it's on the list and I missed. It's number one on my list.

Thanks. WEHT Sly Stone anyway? I know he had major drug problems,
and was always cancelling appearances. He was a pioneer for funk/soul
music. I really liked his performance at Woodstock, "I Want To Take
You Higher'. I didn't go of course I was only 2, but I have the movie
on DVD. That reminds me, Woodstock 99 was on the list. What was so
shocking there? I vaguely remember some controversy. I think shocking

maybe.

Thanks, I guess that belongs on the list. But Whitney Huston missing
the Oscars just isn't very shocking to me. I'm too lazy to go back and
look, but is Paul McCartney's drug bust in Japan on the list?

I think it had to do with the raping and pillaging. I don't know if they
blamed it on the expensive water or Limp Bizkit.
When i first read this I thought you were answering my WEHT Sly Stone
question, by answering 'Rapes, beatings, and tons of damage' which
could be a possibility of what happened to him.

In response to myself, I can't find McCartney's drug bust on the list.
They have almost everyone else's drug busts, why not his? Is Keith
Richards being busted more shocking than McCartney? I don't think so.
Unless it's because Richards' was for heroin and McCartney's was just
pot.

She was one of the first, and the first woman to OD with major publicity. Her
dying soon after Jimi Hendrix sent shockwaves, and they deserved to be on the
list. I would certainly put this on the list in the place of "N'Sync break
free", Carnie Wilson's surgery, or Suge Knight and Vanilla Ice.
Not long before the fatal OD, Janis even said to a lover that she couldn't die,
Jimi had died only weeks earlier, and 2 rock stars couldn't die in the same
year.
I'm surprised VH1 didn't put, "Britney and Justin start dating-superKEWL!!!" as

Both of these omissions had me surprised, too. Along with the
inclusion of Keith Moon's chauffeur's death? What about Moon himself?
IIRC, didn't he drown after driving into a swimming pool? We were all

Bjork's son is not disabled. The story I heard was Bjork was ignoring
the reporter until her - the reporter - decided to turn to the kid for

Keith Moon died from a lethal combination of alcohol and the prescription drugs
that he was given to *combat* alcoholism. Obviously, you're not supposed to
consume both at the same time.

But I'm not really shocked about that. After she married Bobby Brown,

He drove into the swimming pool at the Holiday Inn in Flint Michigan once.
I had an old article about it for a long time which I kept because that's
where I was originally from. By the time I was old enough to go to
concerts, big bands like them were playing giant stadiums and they never
got to Flint again. I saw them in Detroit when I was old enough to go
there with friends, but they didn't have Moon at that time. (It was the
tour when the fans were stomped to death in Cincinati.)

The attack also came right around the time some stalker sent her a pipe
bomb Mail, and then killed himself. The attack probably was caused by
tension caused by that, especially since the reporter tried to talk to
her son. She later appologized about the attack.

If this were 1985 or 1986 they would've included a mention of that movie where
Rick Springfield showed his bare buns. In the current music video television
market, that generation is in the nursing home, drooling and forgotten.
I wouldn't be surprised if VH1 "tweaked" this list to include more moments
their desirable audience (teens) would know, and more moments that they had
archive footage of. They just love dragging out those Behind the Music clips.
I guess that's their right, but I won't be watching. I just hope they mention
how quickly Vanilla Ice changed that "dangled over the terrace by his ankles"
once Suge Knight heard about it.

I wouldn't mind seeing photos of the time he nailed every piece of furniture in
his hotel room to the ceiling, if there were photos.
This was in the mid 70's, right around the time of the album "Station to
Station." Bowie made some comments in an interview that were rather
fascist, and admitted to a fascination with such things. He also was very
messed up on drugs at the time and later retracted all his statements.

And what about the time Jim Morrison said 'higher' when he sang 'Light
My Fire' on the Ed Sullistone show when he wasn't supposed to? Was
that VH tour when David Lee Roth wore the assless pants?

was an open secret.
> 8. Woodstock '99
>
> 9. Sinead O'Connor rips Pope
>
> 10. Beatles more popular than Jesus
>
> 11. Madonna's "Sex"
To me, this wasn't shocking considering it's Madonna we're talking
about. Sleazy, distasteful, disgusting, & uncalled for, yes, but
hardly "shocking".
> 12. Alice Cooper's chicken madness
>
> 13. Jerry Lee Lewis marries teen cousin
>
> 14. Elvis Presley shocks America
>
> 15. PMRC hearings
Not shocking; just stupid & a massive waste of time. Is the PMRC a
non-profit orginazation? If not, then it's a massive waste of tax
payers' money. It also has done nothing but increase the sales of
'explicit' albums.

Once again, not shocking just stupid & a waste of time & tax payers'
money!! Two troubled kids w/drug & alcohol problems yet Judas Priest
was blamed. It's like the whole Columbine thing....Marilyn Manson was
not the reason they did that. If parents would do their job we
wouldn't have 90% of the problems we have w/today's youth.
> 25. Rick James busted
>
> 26. Rolling Stones / Marianne Faithfull busted

Was anyone out there really 'shocked' to find out GM was gay? Hell, I

vid. No straight man dances like that...

As a long-time Motley fan, this wasn't a shock. Every member of the

someone's number came up. Thank-God he was revived!!

the spotlight.

> 71. Freddie Mercury dies of AIDS
To me, this wasn't a shock. It was VERY sad & a great loss to the
music industry, but not a shock. I think it's a shock that more
musicians/celebrities don't have A.I.D.S./H.I.V.
> 72. Puffy's gun trouble
Another little tidbit that shouldn't be called 'shocking'.

> 77. Cynthia Plastercaster
>
> 78. Kiss on fire

Not shocking if you know anything about Axl's notorious temper!! I'm
a huge GN'R fan & I'm surprised Axl hasn't killed someone (or been
killed) yet.
>
> 81. The Who explode on TV
>

You know, maybe because I was really young at the time when this all
happened, but this really did shock me. I had no idea he had such a
serious drug problem or that it was heroin.....

Another true shocker, in my opinion. I'm not a big DL fan but I was
glad to see him overcome this tragedy.

Not shocking, stupid!!! He should have hired at least one good
financial adviser.
> 91. Stevie Wonder's near fatal car accident
>
> 92. Homeless man impersonates Kiss drummer

Truly shocking, IMO. Did you see the photos of her taken shortly

Just my take on things.....

No shit. These two white-trash thugs-in-training had easy access to
booze, dope and guns, and the parents blame the *music.*
Linda C.
Hey, anything that Brian did was fair game considering what a tyrant his
father was. A lot of people believe it was strictly drugs that sidetracked
Brian Wilson but his family life was far from idyllic.

Okay, I knew about the stuff on the list, but the Brian Wilson thing I know
nothing about. Some details for the unenlightened, please?

I was actually there when this happened...
It was at the Reading Festival in 92, it had been raining all night so
the ground in front of the stage was a Woodstock style bog. Loads of
the crowd started throwing mud at the bands, including L7, also i
think some of the crowd at the front were yelling usual stuff that
they do with female bands.
Eventually the singer yells 'alright you f***ers eat my used tampon'
turns around, yanks it out then throws it into the crowd....End of
heckling

I totally agree with you. His father was from hell. For the uninitiated,
Brian shat in a plate and gave it to his father at the dinner table.
Oh...eww. Thanks.
Mel
You have Morrison stories you're holding back! Aw, won't you share a
little....please??

Has anyone been watching this? I can't believe Wendy O. Williams was
arrested for simulating masturbation with a sledgehammer onstage.
Maybe THAT's why it is shocking, because it was ridiculus that she got
arrested. Like Moby said, ten thousand guitarists simulate
masturbation onstage every night. Well, it's probably more than that.

I met Karen in 1979 and was horrified at how scrawny she looked.
Anorexia was practically a secret back then and I thought at the time
that she looked like a speed freak.
Linda C.
Which leads us to the question, with regards to the latest crop of emaciated
actresses, how did she compare?
>I met Karen in 1979 and was horrified at how scrawny she looked.

Now I'm wondering if she (Karen Carpenter) looked even thinner in real
life, because they say TV adds 10 lbs. to you. I can't imagine her
possibly looking thinner than she did though, she would have been
invisible if she were any thinner. I would've thought drugs, too.
Especially speed or coke. I was in my teens at the time, I was 12 in
'79 so I can't remember what was said about her then, but if she were
around today and like that, I would think she would be getting raked
over the coals, like Colista Flockhart is, and Karen makes her look
pleasingly plump IMO. She seemed like a nice person, was she? I love
her singing, she had a beautiful voice.
