100 most shocking moments in rock & roll
PUSSSYKATT
five-hour, five-night special that airs next Monday through Friday (at 10
p.m. ET/PT).
Topping the list is the 1980 assassination of rock legend John Lennon,
followed by the child molestation accusations against Michael Jackson, the
1969 Altamont concert in which a fan was killed during the show, Kurt
Cobain's suicide and Marvin Gaye's murder.

The video has been played a few times on TV. In it Bjork is leaving a
Japanese airport when a reporter comes up to her to ask a question.
She then just attacks the reporter. It is really weird. She just
started hitting the reporter. I don't remember ever hearing a reason
for the attack.

trying to censor lyrics, and Frank Zappa and others opposed the PMRC

I thought the most awful/shocking thing I've ever seen (very disburbing as a
child) was when the guy got stabbed to death by the Hells Angel (so called
security) at the Rollling Stones Gimme Shelter concert at the Altamont speedway
in 69.

Thanks. WEHT Sly Stone anyway? I know he had major drug problems,
and was always cancelling appearances. He was a pioneer for funk/soul
music. I really liked his performance at Woodstock, "I Want To Take
You Higher'. I didn't go of course I was only 2, but I have the movie
on DVD. That reminds me, Woodstock 99 was on the list. What was so
shocking there? I vaguely remember some controversy. I think shocking
is too strong a word for some of the stuff on the list. Newsworthy,
maybe.

Moonie drove into a swimming pool one drunken night at some hotel (iirc, it was
the Continental Hyatt House in LA), and did tons of damage. That was typical
Moon hijinks, he didn't drown from that. I'm pretty sure he drank himself to
death. Or something similar...

But I'm not really shocked about that. After she married Bobby Brown,

He drove into the swimming pool at the Holiday Inn in Flint Michigan once.
I had an old article about it for a long time which I kept because that's
where I was originally from. By the time I was old enough to go to
concerts, big bands like them were playing giant stadiums and they never
got to Flint again. I saw them in Detroit when I was old enough to go
there with friends, but they didn't have Moon at that time. (It was the
tour when the fans were stomped to death in Cincinati.)

If this were 1985 or 1986 they would've included a mention of that movie where
Rick Springfield showed his bare buns. In the current music video television
market, that generation is in the nursing home, drooling and forgotten.
I wouldn't be surprised if VH1 "tweaked" this list to include more moments
their desirable audience (teens) would know, and more moments that they had
archive footage of. They just love dragging out those Behind the Music clips.
I guess that's their right, but I won't be watching. I just hope they mention
how quickly Vanilla Ice changed that "dangled over the terrace by his ankles"
once Suge Knight heard about it.

It was at the Reading Festival in 92, it had been raining all night so

into the crowd ( earlier, during the Airplane's set I was in the 2nd row
and there is a itty bitty clip of me in the movie "Gimme Shelter" ). The
guy who was stabbed to death had a gun in his hand and was aiming it at
the stage. If that gun would have been shot there probably would have
been a major riot there. Can you say panic? Hundreds trampled to death?
The Hell's Angels were HEROES in my book.
I was interviewed by VH-1 for their Confidental series ( I was in No. 5
). They filmed me about Altamont and also about Jim Morrison ( I have
LOTS of stories from the 60s and a few from the 70s ). They ran the Jim
Morrison interview but not the Altamont one ( there had already been a
segment done prior to my interview ). One of the producers who filmed me
said they had gone over the movie frame by frame and he said that the
guy who was stabbed had a girlfriend sitting next to him --- and the gun
had been in her lap. The gun disappeared after the incident.

Karen Carpenter, and OMG did she look thin. I've never seen a living

found it offensive. I was better friends w/ Hendrix ( who was from my

Although Morrison's death was a tragedy to many I feel he died happy ---
as he was the "poet" rather than the singer when he died.
I personally prefer his song lyrics to his poems but that's me.

life, because they say TV adds 10 lbs. to you. I can't imagine her
possibly looking thinner than she did though, she would have been
invisible if she were any thinner. I would've thought drugs, too.
Especially speed or coke. I was in my teens at the time, I was 12 in
'79 so I can't remember what was said about her then, but if she were
around today and like that, I would think she would be getting raked
over the coals, like Colista Flockhart is, and Karen makes her look
pleasingly plump IMO. She seemed like a nice person, was she? I love
her singing, she had a beautiful voice.
