Does anyone know what Dr. Phil's wife's Robin's educational background
is? Right now, she's on today's Oprah's show on hormones, once again
speaking out as if some kind of expert. Both Robin's website and Dr.
Phil's website sugarcoat her background and credentials. It appears
to skip over anything important and focuses on being a wife and
mother, in which category I fall, like so many millions of woman. My
question: What gives Robin any credibility more than anyone else?

That family is getting their money off of limited/non-existent credentials
and the ability to shovel easy platitudes for people hungry for deliverance
from fairly conventional problems.

Between the "Dr." Phil show and The Doctors (which at least has a panel of
credentialed specialists dispensing advice), both owned by the McGraws, they
dispense information like drugstore candy. Have you heard the words of the
new theme song to the "Dr." Phil show? It's all about how hard life is and
sometimes you need sommeone to deliver the cure to you -- he's set himself
and family up as Saviors despite the fact, that, you know, none of them has
any credentials.

And it seems to be working. There have long been tabloid stories that Mrs.
Phil has been trying to get her own show, so I'm sure she's still trying to
develop a following. Credentials, however, are not necessary in the McGraw
family as none of Phils have academic bona fides.

People who, like "Dr." Phil, ask to be called by (honorific) titles along
with their first names are basically trying to say "I'm just like you, but
I'm much better".

Like a lot of celebrities who think they are the first to ever get
married, be pregnant, give birth, Robin's self-centered nature leads
her to believe she is the first woman who ever went through menopause,
and apparently, that makes her an expert.

looking naturally and for less money, when she's CLEARLY had work
done.

McGraw is one more fraud embraced by Oprah, and she is married to a
fraud who hawked diet pills without a medical license. They primarily
appeal to a red state mentality, and will most likely not last too
much longer as country moves on. I just wish there were more of a
backlash against people like this, but they usually just have their
moment then get cancelled. See Ricky Lake.

WHY THE MCGRAW HATE FEST?
I'm not really sure where you've received your information, but Dr.
Phil has a PhD in clinical psychology from the Univ of North Texas.
The whole thing about him not being a "real" doctor is a
rumor that started years ago in an effort to discredit him and derail
his career. As far as Robin and her credentials, she certainly isn't
claiming to be a doctor or anything of that nature. Like many other
people in the public eye, she wrote some books. What's the problem?
Why the big hate-fest? The McGraws have helped a lot of people, her
books have helped people and they certainly aren't bad people. There
are so many crap books out there, I would think there are much better
pieces of illiterate literature to criticize than hers. Besides, since
when do you need to have credentials to write books on spirituality,
beauty and personal health choices? Her credentials are her following
and her celebrity. She's joining the ranks of the thousands of celebs
that have penned, or had someone else pen books for them. Big deal.

If we're talking psychology, diminishing the accomplishments of
others, criticizing or belittling others is a sign of low self-esteem,
immaturity and lack of emotional intelligence. Why not focus on
oneself and what you can do to make the world a better place instead
of criticizing others? Just because you have your own issues of
inferiority, doesn't give you the right to bash others--especially
those who have worked very hard to help others--regardless of whether
or not a college gives them a piece of paper. The last I checked, we
are a free country and we are all free to give and receive information
freely as long as it doesn't cross any legal boundaries. I don't think
there is anything wrong with sharing ones' experience on how to better
oneself based upon their own life experience. If Robin has had work
done, who cares! She's got money and I bet if you could afford to,
you'd be quitting your day job, writing books and getting that last
stubborn 10lbs sucked out of your rump and your face lifted off your
chin too. I know I would!

Consider putting a little more love out into the universe and maybe
you'll start to get a little back. When you spew forth negativity, it
will manifest itself in your life over and over again. Try it.

Good luck and Best Regards,
Jen

IDMB states her to be an actress and considering the length the show goes to sell her as something (I'm not sure if she's supposed to just be some super nurturer or some kind of nurse or what), she has no credentials other than being married to a shrink who has his own tv show due to the yuppie audience appeal he had gotten from being repeatedly called upon on Oprah.
I believe part of her being there is also to try to give the insinuation of Dr. Phil being a family show with appearances that'll appeal to a conservative mentality audience while trying to show soem kind of loving functionality illusion that'll appeal to general audiences. This in turn is just a way to make him look like a "uniter" if it needs to be called upon in regard to backing his cred (on appearances) if in which case it fell into question.

I recently started watching the show again this winter, being snow bound so much this year and having to work at home - might as well have the TV on, right? I think the show's stories have become somewhat more sensationalistic than they were years ago. The stories USED to be focused more on run-of-the-mill couples and family stuff, at which time I decided that McGraw's advise was somewhat sexist (that's when I started calling him the "TEXAS SEXIST") and I stopped watching. He does give good advice (albeit obvious advice, but perhaps not so to people who seem to lack insight or common sense and/or are substance abusers). I understand he is a clinical and forensic psychologist, but while the cameras are on he's not technically practicing; he's a TALK SHOW HOST, who gives advice! No psychologist giving therapy would do it in front of viewers, nor would he invite his spouse to sit in his office and smile and nod while he practiced.

The problem is the show promotes the fact that he is a doctor and therapist, which would lead the viewer and participant to expect they are getting professional help, not only from Dr. McGraw but from his wife as well. But read the fine print at the end of the show. The disclaimer informs that the show is not a substitute for professional therapy. It should likely also state that the show (like "The Doctors") is "infotainment", so use accordingly.

While I don't think it's much of an accomplishment to raise two sons who aren't idiots and to stagnate in a 40-year marriage, at least Ms. McGraw (or, more appropriately, "Mrs." McGraw) does invest her husband's wealth and her volunteer time into worthwhile causes. It's nice to see someone who is so wealthy making an effort to invest in her community; however, I do think it's a good thing it wasn't she who was discovered by Oprah and given her own talk show to advise housewife/mothers, because I guarantee HE wouldn't be sitting in the audience every day as second banana and the volunteer work would not be so much forthcoming. No such man as Phil McGraw would let his own self-worth to be defined by his wife's success. Only a women of her generation with a right-wing mentality would allow herself to be seen as a subordinate partner, which is fine, but not very relatable for younger women who are more independent and who seek their own power and accomplishments.

I sure gotta go with you on this one ...I think if she hasn't had any formal training, then she's really not qualified to give everyone else advice...Standing in a garage doesn't make you a mechanic...Kinda applies here too..If she was given the luxury of giving up her degree to be a stay at home mom, then she gave up the right to be an advisor on any level...Lots of women have to work and can't be stay at home Moms..Makes you feel kinda bad for those women...I guess money rules...

She reminds me of 84 year old Rexella Van Impe...wife of Jack...on each and

Her facial skin is as smooth as a babies butt so ALOT of skin tightening goin'

Robin McGraw is the latest to join the perma-merry band of Botoxers,
so we believe. Specialists are heavily hinting that Dr. Phil s lady
has undergone Botox, as well as having nose and lip jobs.
>
> Botox is not one for the faint-hearted, or light of wallet.
Injections are used to fill out skin that has fallen prey to wrinkles,
leaving it plump and youthful just like Robin s. While this look can
also be achieved through healthy diet and supplements, we suspect
she s gone for the needle instead. Her skin is almost totally smooth,
which is suspicious for a woman in her 60s, although admirable if
natural! Arched eyebrows, dewy, fuller cheeks and differently-shaped
lips all point towards something less erbal than we suspect she s
opted for.
>

well it s not all surface changes we ve spotted. She now sports a
slender nose in place of her natural, slightly wider nose. Her
nostrils appear more tucked in, making her nose longer, too. In fact,
it almost appears as if her nose has shifted further up her face
surely not the result of chia seeds and smoothies!
>
> Nose jobs seem to be quick fix among the celebrity world, with
McGraw joining the likes of Courtney Love, our beloved Jen Aniston and
J-Lo (if rumors are to be believed, of course!) Nose jobs, known in
the medical world as rhinoplasty , essentially remove parts of
cartilage and tissue to reconstruct the nose to a more
aesthetically-desirable shape, whatever that may mean to each patient.
Religiously documented across fashion mags and Hollywood news-sites
alike, nose jobs are one of the biggest did they, didn t they?
trends since the Factory Girl sex scandal of 2007.

changed around her mouth, too. Lip augmentations are among the most

> Bigger is better is not just applicable to mouths, with thousands
across the globe opting for breast augmentation. Not just a confidence
booster, this guarantees to increase your breast size, as well as
changing their shape giving you a youthful, perky set, much like
McGraw s. The increase in her breast size may be natural, as women s
bodies are constantly changing due to lifestyle factors and hormones.
However, something tells us that her recent rise is more
mechanical. Another favorite among celeb-mags, there is constantly
speculation over which Hollywood actress or WAG is the latest to
succumb to the trend. Some good, some bad, some ugly!

> Once again, let us point out that we are in no way trying to shame
Robin if she did indeed undergo cosmetic surgery! We firmly believe
that women should be in control of their own bodies and what happens
to them. To show our support and love for this powerful lady, we ve
made a list of reasons to get cosmetic surgery:
>
> Increased self-confidence! Everyone has something (or several
somethings , if you re anything like us) that they are insecure
about. Some things can be easily fixed many start exercising or
eating more healthily to help them feel better about their size; heaps
of YouTube videos now teach you how to contour to give yourself a
smaller nose and heels are always available for the height-conscious
among us. Surgery is no different there is no point spending your
life hating parts of your face or body when you re comfortable getting
surgery. It s not for everyone, and it s not a particularly cheap fix,
but we would never judge anyone for taking this step to improve how
they see themselves.
>
> Some people are born with birthmarks or facial deformities that
they are not comfortable with. In this case, plastic surgery can be
used to fix birth defects, most commonly cleft lip palates. This can
be for health reasons, such as improving breathing and cognitive
abilities, as well as for aesthetic reasons.
>
> Surgery is common among those who have been involved in
accidents or have undergone treatment for medical conditions. Burns,
tissue trauma and results of medical treatments can all be cause for
plastic surgery, such as removing scar tissue or reconstructing
facial/ bodily features after an accident. It s not all about the
celebrities, you know!
>
> So, whatever the reason behind it, remember that an individual s
choice to undergo plastic surgery is 100% just that their choice!
This belief extends to Robin McGraw and whatever choice she has or
hasn t made regarding her looks. Whilst we believe that some kind of
surgeon has been playing around, we can understand why McGraw may want
to keep it under wraps (as is best after any surgery!)
>
> There can be a huge backlash as soon as a celebrity opens up about
having undergone cosmetic surgery, and we simply can t understand it.
In the same way that many women dye their hair, wear makeup and own at
least one pair of control pants, surgery is just another way of
changing your appearance in order to feel more confident in yourself.
>
> Being in the limelight must be difficult for anyone constantly
having your appearance and life choices scrutinized is no fun for
anyone, we get that. But it seems even harder as you get older if
you re a woman, that is! Most Hollywood men seem to get a free pass
when it comes to ageing, and are congratulated on embracing the salt
and pepper appearance that comes with the years. Women, as always,
are expected to remain perfectly poised, groomed and youthful. We
know, unfair! So, Robin, if you re listening we think you look great
and we re not judging you on any steps, surgical or spiritual, that
you have taken to get yourself to a place where you feel happy and
confident in your own skin, however nipped and tucked it may be!

I like how today Phil asks her if what this guy is doing to his child abuse and she says yes definately. he touts her in the beginning as how she is acknowledged by this group and that about child abuse. she's acknowledged because she gives an ass load of money to these groups, being acknowledged doesn't mean you know the law or are a child psychologist. It means you gave a bunch of money to groups who acknowledged you for it. Any idiot would have known it was child abuse. I get so tired of listening to her peddle her cosmetic line as though she has a degree in science and made it all herself. She put her name on a bunch of overpriced cosmetic stuff so she can have her little bit of attention and money. She also claims it has made her look so good, not the millions of dollars of botex, buck teeth whitening, personal trainer, spa days every day, and living off her husband's millions. If she didn't have his name she would be lucky to be making 18 dollars an hour at an entry level job and trying to make ends meet. She would be most of us.

For those living in the realm of reality, Robin had/has no credentials, and Phil's show revolves around commercial money and PHIL-MONEY. At this point, you're better off listening to MY opinions...in fact, I hope you do. I HAVE A LOT! What do men really think about weaves and wigs? C'mon! NO-BRAINER!

That was my thought. Should she be counseling anyone? Living with a psychologist does not qualify her for anything.

To clear things up:

Phil McGraw and his wife Robin are entertainers. They are not, repeat NOT, licensed credentialed professionals.

Phil does not have a license to practice phycology in any state. He allowed his license to lapse in Texas many, many years ago when he ventured into the entertainment field. Therefore, if you are looking to him to help in any professionally adequate way any issue you are confronting, please, PLEASE look elsewhere. By not maintaining a professional license, this means there is no oversight or accountability for any "advice" they might offer. Despite the disclaimers on his program, he should not be offering advice to anyone in this deceptive format. PhD does not mean he is medically credible. This is an academic nomenclature.

Although, life experience is a valuable commodity, proximity to someone with information does not transfer to another via osmosis. Any work in the non-profit sector is valuable and gratefully appreciated. However, business ventures in the guise of 501c organizations is distasteful. Often wealthy individuals use these type of arrangements to act as publicity tools by proxy.

Furthermore, as a humble critic of their television show, it is nothing more than sensational drippings among 75% ads from sponsors, or what is even more offensive, business ventures of which they have serious vested interest. They do not offer sound, clear advice and most episodes end with Phil pushing "free" sessions of his counseling services. There is never a conclusion, resolution, or follow-up to any issue that is addressed on his program. Which means, we are only introduced to the problem and never see an outcome.

How is it possible to form any clear opinion, let alone garner any true helpful information? To apply the scientific method: how can you prove your hypothesis if you never complete the experiment?

In the end, I came upon this forum while curious about Robin's educational background. On an episode I happened to catch, Phil touted her as being an expert in domestic violence. So, naturally I wanted to know more. It is shockingly irresponsible for this claim to be made. I believe that being an advocate for such issues is important and you do not need a degree to support such an important cause. However, it is something entirely different to claim expertise in something that you have not seriously devoted, dedicated, and actively studied with fruition. Simply talking to a group of ladies at afternoon tea about a subject does not make you an expert no matter how many times they may pay you to do so. It is not just an insult, it can cause serious harm because others who may look to to as an learned expert, trusting your hearsay advice, could act on that advice.

Shame, shame, shame.

Mmmm...ever watch 'Judge Judy'?...[or how's about 'The People's Court' with ole
Wapner]...'prior to the proceedings, all involved parties signed arbitration
contracts agreeing to Sheindlin's ruling'

...not meant to be "educational"...just entertainment for those who sit on the
couch all day.

Better question...does Robin grunt very loud when Phil performs his monthly
sexual "duty"...or is she as frigid as she looks?

I don't know about the US but here in Canada, anyone can hang out a
shingle as a "therapist" without having to have any kind of academic
qualification at all. I have that on good authority from a former
co-worker who was taking a retirement package after a career in IT and
from a practicing MD specializing in therapy who used to belong to our
book club.

That is NOT to say that all therapists in Canada are unqualified! Some
are highly qualified (or at least credentialed) with reputable degrees
from reputable institutions. But you are not REQUIRED to have any degree
to call yourself a therapist.

The Romans said it best "Caveat emptor" - let the buyer (of therapeutic
services) beware!

Oprah Winfrey and the Dr. Phil show

In 1995, Oprah Winfrey hired McGraw's legal consulting firm CSI to prepare her
for the Amarillo Texas beef trial. Winfrey was so impressed with McGraw that she
thanked him for her victory in that case, which ended in 1998. Soon after, she
invited him to appear on her show. His appearance proved so successful that he
began appearing weekly as a relationship and life strategy expert on Tuesdays
starting in April 1998.[18]

In September 2002, McGraw formed Peteski Productions[19] and launched his own
syndicated daily television show, Dr. Phil, produced by Winfrey's Harpo Studios.
Dr. Phil is an advice show, in which McGraw tackles a different topic on each
show, offering advice to his guests. He signed a five-year extension of his
syndication deal with his show's distributors, King World Productions, Inc. The
deal was to pay McGraw $15 million per year[20] and keep the show in production
through the 2013–2014 television season.[21]

On May 21, 2007 the Dr. Phil Show was ranked 4th by Nielsen Media Research, with
6.69 million viewers. About one year later, on May 12, 2008 the show was ranked
6th with 5.69 million viewers.[22][23] In May 2008 the only talk show more
popular than Dr. Phil was The Oprah Winfrey Show.[24] In 2007 McGraw was 30th on
the Forbes Celebrity 100 list. On December 11, 2018 Dr. Phil was the top
syndicated show with a "2.9 live-plus-same-day" national Nielsen rating, ranking
first among talk shows for the 117th consecutive week.[25] His ranking improved,
and by 2020 he was in the 22nd spot on the same Forbes list with earnings of
$65.5 million.

The only time I ever seen 'im is when I turn on the channel he's on to watch the
news program following him...and I always see him walking off stage with his 67
year old midget wife wearing her hooker inspired high heels!
