TOM KEEPING KATIE THISCLOSE

March 7, 2007 -- TOM Cruise can't stand to be away from Katie Holmes even
for a week.

Holmes is due to start shooting "Mad Money" - a comedy about three women who
plan to steal millions from the Federal Reserve and also starring Diane
Keaton and Queen Latifah - in Shreveport, La., in the next month or so. One
insider said, "Tom has called producers and told them he will be on set
every day.

"He wants to observe what's going on and will probably help Katie out." The
couple will likely bring their infant daughter, Suri, along as well.

Jim Acheson, one of the movie's producers, told Page Six, "I don't know if
that's the case, so I can't confirm. We are happy to have both Katie and Tom
on set."

A rep for Cruise and Holmes wasn't available for comment.

The insider added, "Katie's agent, Hylda Queally [at CAA], chose this role
for her because it is a female buddy movie. There is no love interest and
she wouldn't be kissing anyone or have a sex scene."

Acheson declined comment on the script - which our source, who has seen it,
said was "atrocious."

Holmes gave up her role in the upcoming "Batman" sequel, and some in
Hollywood said it was because of the romantic scenes she would have had with
Christian Bale.

Cruise was said to be upset over her sex scene in last year's "Thank You for
Smoking" - which was mysteriously missing during several festival
screenings.

Meanwhile, reports have surfaced on the Internet that Cruise and Holmes will
move into a compound in Beverly Hills. They had been renting a home but were
informed last year that the owner intended to sell it.

The new compound has several buildings and enough room to house Cruise,
Holmes, Suri, Cruise's adopted children with Nicole Kidman, Connor and
Isabella, plus his mother and one of his sisters.

Cruise's sister home-schools the kids, and the compound has room for a
classroom.

Could this be the answer to that blind item about the husband keeping
close tabs on the wife? Yeesh, I'm waiting for Cruise to seal them all
up in the compound and get into an armed standoff with the FBI.

==== Holmes gave up her role in the upcoming "Batman" sequel,

I don't believe she gave it up. I believe that's what camp Cruise
would like the public to think. But after her rather 1) lackluster
performance, 2) Cruise hijacking the premiere 3) Holmes becoming
tabloid fodder, the producers are probably better off replacing her.
That, and now that's she has married Cruise there will be no getting rid
of him on set.

Isn't he filming Lions for Lambs or whatever his movie project with
Redford and Streep? would he have wrapped his movie by the time Holmes
starts? I don't think it is that big a deal for him to show up on the
set but certainly not everyday.

I don't think stories like this are surprising anyway, we should just
take this kind of thing as par for the course when it comes to Cruise
and Holmes. He is mad as a hatter, lol.

Does this answer a BI within the past few weeks about someone who wouldn't
let his wife appear on a show if he couldn't be on it? Just reading the
title of the thread made me think of these two.

And the word "compound"...it sounds "cultish".

The best guess for that BI was JLo and Marc Anthony. Katie doesn't
appear on TV shows.

Can't you see him pulling the director aside to give him notes on
shooting Katie? That, and passing out $cientology material to
everyone.

He's such a little control freak.
