Tongues are wagging about a shapely, modestly talented beauty who's letting
good reviews and excessive press attention go to her head, big time. All it
took was some critical attention from a movie that maybe 15 people saw to turn
this "star" into a major handful. Not only did she totally refuse to promote
her upcoming movie (that special-effects thriller), but she's also become a
moody, demanding tyrant who bosses people around, blows off faithful old
firends and actually refers to herself in the third person. What she's yet to
figure out is that people will stop tolerating such nonsense the instant her
movies begin to bomb. Take it from Murg, this one's got a long, fast fall
waiting for her.

BLIND ITEM REHASH:

Salma Hayek?
What special effects thriller is she in though? IMDB only lists one upcoming
movie for her, "Murphy's Law", which doesnt' sound either special or
thrilling. What's Maggie Gyllenhal (sp?) working on at the moment?
Evelyn
Jennifer Garner??
Is she shapely? She's got those Gyllenhal chipmunk cheeks, but beside that?
Nah she doesn't fit...the only movie she's appeared in recently was "Catch me
if you can", and more than 15 people saw that :)
What about Angelina Jolie...the critical acclaim (and Oscar) she got was for
a movie that wasn't widely seen, Girl Interrupted, and her next movie is the
special-effects thriller Tomb Raider 2. And allegedly she has undergone a major
personality change after adopting her kid.
That would be my guess too but she already had the diva stuff down before the
Oscar didn't she?
I think you're right. Her picture is on the same page...something Movieline is
famous for doing.
Billie
"STUPIDITY IS NOT A HANDICAP. Park elsewhere!"
Maybe, but winning an Oscar for Girl Interrupted is "some
critical attention"? I think this is a newcomer. How about
Naomi Watts or Kate Hudson
Reposting original item.
Gwyneth has "The World of Tomorrow", a sci-fi thriller with Jude Law
coming out this year (the movie, not Jude Law). But she's not shapely
and her movies starting bombing a long ime ago.
Claire Danes is in T3, but not shapely. Hilary Swank is in "The
Core"... but this doesn't seem like her.
Jennifer Connelly is going to be in "The Hulk" -- I'll go with her.
--Amy
But they key word is "shapely", Watts and Hudson are stick insects. As are
Gwyneth and Jennifer Garner.
Jennifer Connelly doesn't fit either, A beautiful mind earned over $100
million at the box office, not exactly a movie that maybe 15 people saw. I
guess Halle is the best guess so far but it still doesn't seem right for some
reason...

Kat
I don't think it's Halle either because "Monster's Ball" wasn't obscure
enough -- after all ,she won an Oscar for it. It sounds like whoever it is
was in some low budget indie, like Maggie G. in "Secretary"...except she's
not doing a big budget thriller next. Feh : P This seems like it should be
an easy BI because of all the clues.
Evelyn
According to IMDB, Salma is in "Once Upon a Time in Mexico," starring
Antonio Banderas and Johnny Depp and directed by Robert Rodriguez.
Don't know about special effects per se, but it's sure to have a ton
of stunts; definitely an action film.
Maggie G. ain't shapely.
D
good guess - but what was the movie that maybe 15 people saw - Dude,
Where's my Car? She was just in Catch me if you Can, but more people
saw that. She is in Daredevil coming up, but the other clues don't
fit.
Carrie Anne Moss has Matrix2 coming up. Who else is in upcoming
special effects thrillers?
>Carrie Anne Moss has Matrix2 coming up. Who else is in upcoming
>special effects thrillers?
See my post above, earlier in this same thread, there's a list of all the
women in upcoming special effects thriller movies.
Kat
I have no love loss for Halle Berry but I don't think this is BI is about her.
Since she won an Academy Award for her role, I believe more than just 15 people
saw her in Monster's Ball,
When I read this Salma Hayek's name popped into my head. I guess it depends on
whether her upcoming movie could be considered a special effects movie or not.
She's a skeleton!

You wouldn't be dead for quids.
How about Rebecca Romijn-Stamos? Didn't she get pretty good reviews for the
movie she did w/ Antonio Banderas?
Sorry I hit send before I was finished.
Rebecca Romijn-Stamos was in Femme Fatale which was directed by Brian De Palma
and I remember a few good reviews given to her. And she's reprising her role
in the X-Men.
She got terrible reviews, and she's *really* a lollipop girl.
Evelyn
I think another key word is "modestly talented." Halle Barry may in fact be
that but would movie line describe her that way? She's gotten some good
reviews.
We need shapely, modestly talented and SOME good reviews in a flick nobody saw
and now she's in an action movie and a diva.
I'm in the Rebecca Romjin Stamos camp or Maggie Gulenyal (sp?) - but isn't
Maggie G. thought of as more than modestly talented?
RRS seems to at least squeeze into all the necessary categories.
I think Hillary Swank is a good guess. And yes, she is curvy and
busty, and after Boys Don;t Cry, she has made special efforts to show
she is all woman.

Rebecca Romeyn(sp?)-Stamos
Slightly revising my earlier guess - Rebecca Romijn-Stamos. Femme
Fatale got decent reviews but bombed, didn't it? And she's set to be
in X-Men II.
tmac
She's from my town, and is known for being very down-to-earth. I have to tell
you, it ain't her. Plus you never saw any woman less curvy than she is in
person.
What about Emma Caulfield? She's in Darkness Falls, which just came
out, but I think she did press for it. The lastline "in for a
long, fast fall" makes me think maybe...?
Otherwise, I think the best guess is Hilary Swank.

She's who I've been thinking it is.

The Best Character Actors
Nice original guess, but sadly Sum of all fears did make quite a bit of
dough...
** I really don't KNOW who this columnist is talking about, but I
might point out that there's at least one movie neither of you I
believe (up to and including message no. 35 in thread) have mentioned,
and that is Final Destination 2. It's bowing quite large this weekend.
I have too little knowledge of the actresses in that movie to make any
speculations - but maybe someone else has ?
Otherwise it obviously could be someone from The Core (Hilary Swank
?), X-men 2 (Famke Janssen ?) or Matrix 2 (Monica Belluci... ?) Far
shot (?): Claire Danes in Terminator 3.
Any way, should be a few bones there to gnaw on, right.. ? ;-)
Ali Larter...don't think she's been particularly critically praised for
anything.
She got good reviews for Irreversible and is in the upcoming Matrix flicks.
She's been quiet difficult with her attitude in Mel Gibson's movie about Jesus.

Jennifer Anniston?
>Jennifer Anniston?
Hi, new here. I thought this, too, for The Good Girl, but I think more than 15
people saw it.
I also thought Salma --> Frida as the movie, but don't know what she's doing
next.
I also thought Carrie Ann Moss --> Memento, though more than 15 people probably
saw it. The SF clue would fit to neatly for her, though I haven't seen any
promos for Matrix: Reloaded yet, save the trailer during the Super Bowl.
--NeonJungle
Carrie-Anne Moss is doing press for The Matrix sequels, so its not her.
Maggie Gyllenhaal doesn't fit the "shapely figure" description. She's
flat-chested and very thin. She's not appearing in an upcoming special-effects
thriller either. She's more of an indie film actress.
This blind item sounds like it's about a relatively recent newcomer, and
someone who isn't an A-list actress, so that rules out Halle Berry.
Monica Belucci is the best guess so far.
