. . . now James Cameron comes out of the closet

"Titanic" director James Cameron  -- a gun firmly tucked in his waistband -- 
proved he's not only the self-proclaimed "King of the World," but also "King
of  the Cowboys"!

Move over Roy Rogers . . . It was "make my day" time for macho Cameron who took
his gun along when he went on a fun-filled weekend outing with his buddies.

Charlton Heston -- newly elected president of the National Rifle Association --
recently declared that there are many gun sportsman like himself in Hollywood.
Cameron is certainly one of them!

Pardners, it seems the pistol-packing director loves artillery.

James not only likes to pull the trigger at practice ranges but he often packs
heat for protection, says an insider.

Displaying his true grit, Cameron enjoyed a recent camping trip with six pals
in the desert community of Riverside, Calif.

"They spent part of the weekend riding dirt bikes and then they went out into
the desert to target shoot,"  disclosed an eyewitness.

"James had a shiny .45 caliber automatic pistol tucked into his blue jeans and
some other guys had shotguns. Cameron cleaned and played with his gun like some
kid mesmerized with a new toy."

Sgt. Wayne Walker, of the Riverside Sheriff's Dept., noted, "There's nothing
illegal about target shooting out in the desert around here except shooters
have to stay a mile away from any city limits or roads."

But guns weren't the only item on the menu. Rock 'n' roll blared from speakers
the revelers set up and they cooled off with watermelon and cold beer.

They set out to have fun -- and sure hit the target!
